A Salem Witch spoon by Daniel Lowe. This is the second Salem Witch spoon he manufactured. This one has a gilded bowl with Salem etched in it.
The witch's cat extends from the bowl where Salem is embossed.
These spoons are die cut. A witch on a crescent moon is at the top of the spoon.
This is a Swedish witch spoon. She is holding a broom.
The bowl of the spoon shows an ear of corn. This signifies how the Pagan farmer's would pole vault themselves into the air using their brooms to show the gods how high they wanted their corn to grow. This is where the tradition of the witch riding the broom originated.
Here is a really easy and super good recipe that anyone can make. Start with any fruit that is in season. I am using peaches today. Peel and slice them and toss them with 1/4 cup of sugar, stir and set aside. When peaches are ripe you can just pull the skins of so no need for blanching.
Take four small containers, I am using mini pie plates, but you could even use cups or any small plate with sides. Put 1 tablespoon of butter in each plate and put them in a preheated 350 degree oven.
While they are in the oven mix 1 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder and a pinch of salt.
Add a 1/4 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg.
With the mixer working add 1 cup of whole milk.
Scrape down the side of the bowl and mix until smooth.
Remove the pans from the oven when the butter has melted, about 10 minutes.
Divide the batter between the pans..
Then ladle the peaches into the middle of each pan along with their juice.
Put them back in the 350 degree oven and bake until golden brown, about 45 minutes to an hour.
If you have extra fruit, which I did, turn it into jam following the recipe from the other day.
When they are golden brown remove them from the oven.
Top with freshly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
YUMMO!!!!
