I love dates and recently tried a new recipe which was a huge hit. I made two recipes to give some away. The instructions will be for a single recipe. I started by spraying and lining a bar pan with parchment paper.
Use an 8 oz. package of pitted dates.
Chop them into small dice.
1 cup of chopped pecans
1 cup of chopped walnuts. Put the nuts and pecans in a bowl.
In a separate bowl, melt 3 sticks of butter.
Add 3/4 cup of white sugar
And 3/4 cup of brown sugar. Stir this all together.
Combine 2 cups of flour with 1/2 tsp. salt
And 1/4 tsp. of baking powder. Whisk to combine.
Mix 4 eggs at room temperature into the butter and sugar mixture.
I mix the eggs in using the paddle attachment to my mixer.
Back to the nuts and dates....
Sprinkle in about 1/2 cup of the flour mixture and stir it around to coat all of the dates and nuts. This will keep them from clumping in the batter.
The dates stick together but you can separate them as you stir.
Add the rest of the flour mix to the moist mixture.
Stir just until blended.
Then add the date and nut mixture to the batter. And stir just until this is blended.
Pour it into the sprayed and lined pan.
Bake at 350 for about 40 minutes. Test it with a toothpick. When the toothpick comes out clean it is done.
These are moist and chewy and hard to stop eating.
*** Just a side note here.....anyone out there want to join me in flying to California and finding that G**d**m Jesse James and opening a can of whoop ass on him. How dare he cheat on Sandra Bullock. I love her!! She was in Practical Magic after all!!!!!

that said I would love to be entered into your giveaway. For Easter we always have ham, onion casserole, green beans and rolls. YUM!
I'm not planning to do anything for Easter. Although I might try making these date bars with rice flour.
Well I´m not sure I´ll be eating at home at easter, but where I´m going it´ll probably be an easter variation on the christmas table. With chicken, eggs, salmon, all kinds of pickled herring, swedish meat balls and prince sausages :-)
To be honest I haven´t eaten that much dates in my life. I can´t remember how they tasted. But I love all kinds of different nuts so I might actully try this one. But all baking has to wait until I know my leg works properly. Suddenly I get tired in it and has to lay down. If I fall asleep then disaster will happen in my kitchen :-) :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.
Oh that poor Sandra, I love her and Practical Magic is my favourite movie ; )
We don't do anything big for Easter. When I was at home with the family I would make a big dinner and have an egg hunt for my nieces and nephews.
I didn't hear about the cheating.
*sigh*
I posted ( as usual) about your lovely giveaway on my blog.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that tea pot and that jam pot is to die for!
These date bars sound scrumptious! to say the lest.. i have got to try them!
I'll go to California with you ... shame on him .. He need a good A$$ woppen'. Actually .. I would rather just hug and tell Sandra B. to drop him like rock in the river.. she deserves better! He's just stupid!
Blessings on this the First day of Spring to You and all yours Lady!

I'm half Greek, so every Easter (the normal Easter; we don't usually celebrate the Greek one) we serve a traditional Greek meal consisting of Pastitso, Spanakopita, Lamb, and Orzo (that's marinated in the lamb juice.)
I look forward to it every year- it is SO delicious!♥
Wonderful giveaway, good job Princess Teddy Fluffs!
My Mom and my Aunt Martha Jane prepared the same Easter dinner and I have adopted the same tradition.
Easter Dinner: Baked Ham w/cherries/pineapple/bourban; Potatoe Salad; Baked Macaroni & Cheese; Green Bean Casserole; Green Zucchini Casserole; Asparagus; Creamed English Peas; Relish tray; toasted Kaiser Rolls; Ice Tea; Pecan Pie and Sweet Potato Pie; Coconut Cake w/plum preserve layers; Ambrosia. That's it..
Date nut bread looks warm and ready to eat with a cold glass of milk.
Bad, bad Jesse. Need whoop up real bad......Sandra Bullock deserves so much better.
Enjoyed my visit....loves to Teddy
And as for your next give-away, now how cute can a teapot and jam jar get? They will bring smiles and sunshine to whomever gets them!
Those bars look luscious! I'm trying to incorporate more good things into my hubby's diet. .he tends to love the sugary things, although he does love nuts. I think that we would both enjoy these! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
As for Sandra Bullock, I rarely get up in arms over celebs break-ups, but this one has me p*ssed. So yes! I'm ready to head out there with you. Nothing like a bunch of irrate women to give him what he deserves!
I have a feeling Sandra Bullock can take care of herself. Besides, Jesse James is très ordinaire anyway.
Blessed Ostara to you!
We have to have ham for Easter! The Boy would have a fit if I caused him to miss an opportunity to eat ham!
For Easter, we visit my husbands family and they always make lamb. I always put a tiny piece on my plate to try, but I can never bring myself to eat it!
Kisses from Nydia.
As for your cake/bread recipe...yum. I don't love dates, but I bet they taste great in that recipe.
My family sticks to very traditional Easter dinners...usually ham, potatoes, various casseroles, hot rolls, tons of veggies, noodles, devilled eggs, etc. It's good, but I would LOVE some new ideas on the dinner table. :)
I was just ranting and raving at work today about that stupid Jesse James. I feel so bad for her after she talked so lovingly about him in her acceptance speech at the Oscars! Especially the part where she said that he was the only person who had ever "had her back" and he sat there with tears in his eyes. Probably because he knew what he had done! A-hole! I'd be glad to join you but I agree with Tristan, she can probably take care of herself. That guy! What a loser!
Hey! you REALLY don't want to know what our family tradition for Easter dinner was when we were growing up! My Dad and step-Mom would go to her relatives and me and my sister had "Harris"(the best pizza joint in town) Pizza...But really, Harris pizza is delicious! YUM! Ha! Ha! and after that we would go to the movies! I know you are probably mortified! Now that my sister is married, her husband wants a NICE meal...so HE cooks it! and I drop by! LOL!
I love the recipe because it has dates and nuts (is there a better combination anywhere on earth?!) Definitely going in my files.
I think Sandra and Jesse have made up. I just wish that the blankety-blank press would leave them alone.
For Easter we usually make stuffed acorn squash, some sort of dish involving asparagus, and we always have my mom's recipe of marinated carrots. Delish! (And I follow you!)

I'll be back later with the Easter menu. I'm always running late for something.
Peace,
Chris.....
We usually don't do anything special for Easter dinner; I'll be working that day, probably overtime.
