Fall in the Gardens

I am using up as much of my garden bounty as possible. I made this for the kids yesterday. I chopped up a bunch of really ripe tomatoes, picked handfuls of fresh herbs like thyme, basil, oregano and chives and diced them. Thinly sliced some sweet onion and grated some home grown garlic. I added a bit of olive oil and salt and freshly cracked pepper. I boiled some little tubes of pasta. After mixing it all together I stirred in some cubed provolone cheese. This can be served cold or at room temp.

The Fall Flowering Clematis continues to open.

Peppers continue to grow.

I have to go out and walk the property each morning and pick up any pieces of Locust branches that fall. Look at the size of these thorns. They could do major damage to puppy paws. I know because they have injured my paws several times.

I still have eggplants growing.

And my celery is ready and Saturday is supposed to be cool so it will be a ketchup making day! The Blog Tech will be learning to make ketchup this year.

These Morning Glories grow like weeds and are everywhere.

I saw two big fish in the upper pond this morning. I wonder if they will make it through the winter.

The Fall Flowering Clematis is flowering on the gazebo. Someone asked the other day how I handle this plant. It can become very invasive. I treat it very much like a weed. I pull it out in places it does not belong and after it finishes blooming, I will cut it back to the ground. Next spring it will come back with a vengeance.

It looks like the gazebo has been decorated for a wedding. You can cut and train this Clematis to grow any which way you want!

This is the room where I planted the Impatiens months ago. You can see the ones in the back are shriveled. This is the worst drought we have had in years. Today it is going to be in the mid 90's again!

Look how beautiful the bark is on the River Birch.

Soon it ill be time to turn all of the falls off.

We will enjoy them for about another month. Once the leaves start falling, the pool and ponds and stream have to be shut down.

Roses are still blooming.

And I harvested the Chinese Lanterns and hung them to dry today. This is a plant that will really take over if you don't keep up with it.

That river birch is really beautiful. I'll bet you could stare at it day after day and see something new each time.

We need some sun soon or the rest of the garden is toast.

WOW! look at that gazebo!
I remember when you were repairing it in the spring! I was showing a co-worker your blog and going on and on about how YOU made that gazebo and how amazing it was. I showed her all your photos of your garden and how Teddy is the guide. She was SO impressed. I must go get her and show her it now, covered with clematis...it's SO beautiful!
The recipe sounds appetizing... and the pond is sweetly natural. ~bangchik

Dear J,

Jeff was straddling the top of the bathtub, mudding the wall, in 95 degree HUMID heat. He nearly fell off the tub he was laughing so hard about you dancing naked in the street "we all lose."

Loved the post. The clematis on the gazebo is fabulous. We're not eating dinner tonight. TOO HOT. We're having Round Top ice cream cones and working late.

Love,

Wow, I love your garden. That waterfall is so neat, it just looks like such a nice place to sit and think. I posted about something I saw on ebay you might find interesting. I thought it was neat! A winged goat standing up holding a welcome sign.

I was looking forward to trying your eggplant dish but only one plant is doing anything and they may not make it before the weather turns. Sigh.

However, the top dish looks great.

I blogged about you today.

Your gazebo is to die for! I just love natural settings like that. What a great place to go and feel surrounded by nature!

Our pond this fall seems to be sporting a lot of baby fish. By spring we'll have to give them away if the heron doesn't stop for fast food over the winter!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I love any plant you can hack down to the ground and it comes back. That clematis is great!

One of these days I'm going to plant some chinese lanterns. I may let them take over too - I just love them!

Finally, I have subscribed to your blog, after many months of reading it. I love your recipes (have tried several of them), and very much enjoy your witchy collections, and your gardens. I have just started my own blog and hope you will come visit me. I am a witch, too, a Wiccan. Teddy is adorable. And the other day I watched the Durian fruit video...was doing fine until the Blog Tech mentioned the word "mucous", and I started feeling a little "gaggy". take good care, and Bright BLessings to you.
