Just because your Halloween food sounds scary, it doesn't mean it can't taste good!
I used my recent recipe for white sandwich bread. Top one piece with Havarti cheese.
Slice up a bunch of mushrooms. Use any kind you like. I used regular white ones. Saute' the mushrooms in butter with salt and pepper until they begin to brown.
Top the Havarti with fresh sage leaves.
Place a mound of the sauteed mushrooms on top of the sage and cheese.
Place a slice of Gouda on top of the mushrooms. Butter the outside of the bread.
Cook over medium heat.
When one side browns and you see the cheese melting, turn it over.
It helps if you serve it on an appropriate plate. (La Strega = The Witch)
Not too scary, eh?

I love Havarti and I remember when I grew up in an apartment in Gothenburg. We had bought a havarti cheese but it smelled so strong that everything in the fridge started to taste like the cheese :-)
Since it was autumn and rather chilly outside we diecided to place it on our balcony. After a few days our neighbors knocked at the door and told us that we probably had a dead animal rotting on the balcony because it smelled awful :-) :-) :-)
Have a great day!
Christer.
Thank you for the recipe!
Cheers!
