Garden Mirror Chains

Click for a better look.  I had trouble getting good photos of the mirror chains but I had several requests to show how I make these so here goes.

Buy bags of mosaic mirror tiles or pick up an old mirror at a thrift store and cut it into little squares. Get some fishing line and fast setting glue.

Cut a piece of the fishing line to the length you desire. Lay it over the back of one of the tiles and put a dab of glue on it.

Press the back of another tile onto the one with glue.

Continue down the line spacing them about 1  1/2 inches apart.  Let it sit until the glue dries.

Make sure you have a handy helper nearby.

Hang them from a branch in your garden where the sun will reflect off of them.

When the sun hits them, little sparkles of light dance on the ground. Again, they are hard to photograph but they are really very pretty.

A special cool spot on a hot day.

My clematis is covered in blossoms.

I already have over 2 dozen green tomatoes.  I am fertilizing with compost tea and these plants are loving it.  If you want to try this, just fill a bucket with compost and add water.  Let it sit for 24 hours.  Pour the water from the bucket into a sprinkler can and water your plants.Do this a couple times a week.

If you look closely here you can see 2 mirror chains.

I am on my way to the local craft store to pick up mirror tiles and some good glue. Those are marvelous strands of reflective beauty! I can't wait to have them hanging in my trees. My husband will love it when he has to mow the grass. Hope he doesn't get tangled up in mirror chains! At least it will be pretty...

beautiful! what a great addition to anyones garden, I think I need the helper though, when I commented on an earlier post about the garden tea I thought you used manure, ha ha, we made our garden tea with manure, compost is much more civilized!!!

These are beautiful and ingenious! If my anxiety ever calms down I may attempt this, my neighbor has two trees which it would be easy to hang these from the branches. xo

I'm jealous of the green tomatoes. He just transplanted his baby plants out into the cold cruel world of the garden - just in time for this weekend's lows of 38. *sigh*

Thanks for the "how to" on the mirror tiles. I am certainly not a handy crafter but I could make these! Maybe I will try to make a few strands. They would make great gifts too!

I so appreciate seeing your lovely gardens and grounds. I miss all the lovely colors and sunshine of the East Coast. Thank you again and again!

This is a TERRIFIC idea. I love it. They look amazing in your garden reflecting the sunlight. The only problem I have making them is, I do NOT have a HANDY helper. Can I borrow Teddy???

Fabulous idea, but I'm afraid they may start a fire here in 114 degree weather, haha. I love the chance to get to see your gardens. So very beautiful.
