Peanut Butter Cookies

The Blog Tech is a real cookie monster.  I had not made cookies for a while and he started hinting that he needed some.  So, I made him some of my mother's peanut butter cookies.  I don't remember much about my mother since she died when I was very young, but I sure do remember her peanut butter cookies
I still have her recipe in her handwriting.

Mix 1/3 C, of peanut butter with 1/4 C. shortening and 1/4 C. butter.  My mom used all shortening but I like to combine shortening and butter.

Mix in 1 C. sugar and 1/2 C. brown sugar.

Add 1 egg and 1 tsp. vanilla extract.

Gradually add 1 tsp. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. salt and 1  1/2 C. flour.

Form them into walnut sized balls.
Flatten them with a fork.  Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or just until they start to turn golden on the edges.  Cool on racks.

Pour a big glass of cold milk and dive in.

these look like the perfect peanut butter cookie, cooked just enough to have a little golden but still soft and chewy!
I think it wonderful for you have the recipe knowing her hand touched that and wrote it out, a physical connection for you. That is lovely,

That is the same recipe my Mother used for her peanut butter cookies, they were SO good.
My mom passed away 8 years ago and when going through her things my brothers made sure I got her recipes :) It sure does warm my heart when I come across one of her old recipes written in her hand!!

Those cookies look awesome makes me want to bake a batch this weekend.

I love to look back on old recipes and see my mothers, fathers and grandmothers handwriting. It connects me to them, when I cook what they did. :) Those cookies look perfect.

It's so great to have recipes from mom's and grandmother's. I know I am grateful that I have a few of them but sad that I didn't pay attention to a few special ones of my grandmother's and now they are lost forever.
This reminds me - I need to make some cookies too.

I can imagine how tasty these are :-) We have something similar here but use hazel nuts instead.

Have a great day!
