Pumpkins!!!

We headed north yesterday to hit all of the farm markets.  I was hoping to buy lots of tomatoes to make more summer sauce and to find some sweet corn. I casually pulled into the first parking lot and immediately stopped in my tracks and jumped out of the car.

I never expected to see this sight!  Pumpkins!!!  This is the earliest I have ever seen them.  I was so excited. And also sad that I couldn't share my find with Kary.  She would have been so happy.

Teddy was happy that we found pumpkins.  They attract the squirrels each year which Teddy finds very appealing.

I bought free range Amish eggs.

And a great big roaster to make for Teddy.  That puppy girl sure likes her roasted chicken.

This place has a wonderful butcher shop so I stocked up on their smoked bacon, garlic sausage rings and round roast which will be for Teddy too.

I bought hot sausage, a rump roast and chuck steaks.

Freshly ground meat, their homemade kielbasa and liver for Teddy.

Meat sticks for The Blog Tech and Amish butter.

They make their own meat sticks and they are wonderful.

The we hopped around to small farm stands around the area.  Most of the farms have groaning boards of vegetables for sale at really reasonable prices.  All of the vegetables had just been picked since we were the first customers and arrived very early.

Two gallons of freshly squeezed cherry cider.

As I type my hands are red from pickling these guys.

 Jumbo green peppers.

Amish made soup and halushki noodles.

Blackstrap molasses and local buckwheat honey.  I love buckwheat anything.

The first apples of the year which went straight to The Blog Tech.  That kid sure can eat apples!

These will be made into pickles when I finish writing this post.

These have already been made into jam.  Fresh berries disintegrate so quickly it makes you wonder what is in the ones you buy at the store.

And last but not least...THE PUMPKINS!!!  I only bought three since I know we are in for more hot weather which might do them in.  I can't wait to get more soon.  I will post what I did with my bounty over the next couple days.

Oh I wish we had more markets like that over here! So many good things!

I think those meat sticks are the same as we call beer sausages, not because it's beer in them but people like to eat them while drinking beer :-)

That Buck Wheat honey tastes amazing! The jar I got from You last year got empty very quickly :-) :-) :-) I've never eaten honey tasting like that before.

I doubt that anyone that did sow pumpkins here this spring got any, too much rain and too cold weather. My winter squashes hasn't even flowered yet :-) :-) :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.
Cherry cider? That sounds so refreshing,
I'm releived to see the things you cook Teddy. U Know who's Teddy scarfed up the rib eye and John is wondering what next? I told him
Prime rib with au jus.
You peeps that live close to Amish farm stands are making this California girl go crazy!
xx

Ha! Wait until I tell my Hubs that you found pumpkins! Every week when we go and get bird seed, I tell him that they are going to have 1. Mums, 2. Pumpkins & Gourds, and 3.) Halloween decor. . well, the week before last, the mums had arrived. We didn't go last week, because we were out of town, so I expect to see BIG hints of Fall when we go this week!

All of that produce looks so beautiful, and so yummy! I'm anxious to see what you do with it all. Each photo is a piece of art!

What an exciting post! We saw pumpkins today too! I love all your purchases! I was thinking about everything I would make with what you bought! I went to a market earlier and bought chicken for some chicken soup this week. I love the egg carton with the amish buggy! When I come to PA I buy my eggs from the farm--beautiful brown eggs. If you go into Intercourse PA you must go to Kauffmans--the Amish supermarket. You would love it! Teddy is sure a lucky fella! Love, Maggie

I saw some pumpkins in a field a few weeks ago as far as the eye could see. It did my heart good. At my house I have dispensed with summer completely. I LOVE all your finds at the market. Such a wonderful place to shop. Nothing like that anywhere around here. Can't wait to see what you are gouing to do with all those scru8mptious goodies.
