Pumpkin Cheese Ball

I make these each Fall and they are always a big hit.  People are reluctant to cut into them.

You can use any cheese ball recipe you like but this one is particularly good.  Add an 8 ounce block of cream cheese to your food processor.  Add 2 cups of shredded cheddar, a bunch of green onions, 3 cloves of minced garlic, some black pepper and salt.

Add 1 whole jar of Major Grey's Chutney.  This is the key to this recipe. Process until combined.

Line a small bowl with plastic wrap.

Push the cheese down to press out air bubbles.

Pull the plastic wrap up to cover the cheese.

You can see how it is pressed in the bowl. Refrigerate it overnight.

Turn it out onto a plate.

Split up another bar of cream cheese and tint it orange, yellow, green and brown.

Spread the orange cream cheese to cover the cheese ball.  Spray it with cooking spray and add bits of the other colors molding and smoothing as you go until you have something that closely resembles a pumpkin.

Trim a broccoli stalk to look like the stem and press it into the middle.  Lay some of the broccoli leaves on too.

The party was a huge success and lots of fun.  A few people had a little too much fun which centered around the Can Can martinis we served.  I have to sort through all of the pics but I will be posting them over the next couple of days along with recipes including the one for the martinis.  If I suddenly disappear, you will know I have been blown off continent by hurricane Sandy.  It is heading straight toward us with predictions of 6-8 inches of rain and winds up to 80 MPH. I am keeping my broom handy to ride the wind waves when they come.  Look to the skies on Halloween to see me!

Comments

Glad the party was great. And glad it was last night (Sat.). Before 'Sandy', etc.

If much power goes out, will Halloween have to be cancelled? -pout- I can't imagine many Trick or Treaters going out, if everything is in pitch DARK.

This looks so good. I am too lazy to do it tonight (and I don't have the ingredients), but you inspired me to do a mash.

The broccoli stem is brilliant! Ive seen pumpkin cheese balls with pineapple preserves, but I prefer the chutney. I do believe I will try this recipe soon. As always, thank you for the great recipes and the fantastic photos!
So creative - beautiful and fun!
What a cute and creative idea, Joyce! I am glad the party was a success, but then of course it would be!!
I am so concerned about your home and yard..all those trees and ...did you have a way to protect the fish? Do you have to evacuate and leave your home? WHERE are you in reference to the Hurricanes path?? Can you tell us?
HUGS!
