Sauerkraut

This is what I did with all of the sauerkraut I bought at the festival the other day.  I made a huge vat of pork and sauerkraut with kielbasa for the shelter.  I also made a huge vat of mashed potatoes to go with it.
There was a petting zoo at the festival.

This little guy was for sale.

Chickens and roosters and info on all the breeds.

 Cute goats.

These two girls were in a pen next to the knitted alpaca items for sale.

 A blacksmith demonstration.

They had entertainment too.  Notice the guy is wearing one of those animal hats.

Mennonite girls grooving to the tunes.

 A beekeeper and his honey.

 A candle maker.

 Hayrides.

 A railroad pump cart.

 A miniature train.

A mennonite girl with her little brother who had his face painted.

 Hope you enjoyed the festival.

I just realized at the end of your post when I saw the name, that a good friend of mine went to the same festival.

I love sauerkraut and kielbasa. Mmmm, I'll have to make some when my kraut is ready

Well, sauerkraut isn't on the top of my list of what I love to eat :-) But I've only eaten it a few times and then I did it in Portugal :-) They sold hotdogs with sauerkraut and I wonder if that's normal or if I just was unlucky :-)

I do like the fair a lot though, I would have loved to walk around looking at all those things!

Have a great day!
Christer.
Is there anything cuter than a wee alpaca?

The only thing wrong with these photos, is that I wasn't there with you. I'm finding something interesting in each photo. I especially like the bee keeper's display with the bees and also, the candle maker sitting there making candles as you tour the festival.
Oh, and aren't the young Mennonite girls adorable dancing to the music. That is one of the very neatest festivals I have ever seen, thanks for taking the time to take photos and give us all the chance to tag-a-long.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)

That looks like a nice festival. Your kraut looks good on that meat.

such a great event, I would really enjoy this, the bees are something you don't see very often, very neat to them,

That looks so idyllic. I'm going to one on Thursday but it's in Arizona. The farm feels every much as if it's in the Midwest, but the weather will be in the 80s. Kind of ruins it.

Good old sauerkraut. With sausages and a beer it is to die for.

Yay! How fun. The beekeeper had a great set up to sell his honey!
Sauerkraut is very easy to make, and knowing your facility with cooking, I bet you could beat up something special.

All you must do is finely shred the cabbage, salt it, and then rub and mash it until the juice is released. Then pack it into a jar, beneath the juice, and let it ferment.

I like to make mine with shaved ginger, and caraway seeds.

Animals are friends, I would love to live in the country, with endless room for goaties, chickens, burros, and a Jersey cow.

The Mennonite girls seem so ill at ease in public. Their behavior is troubling to me.
