Brown Bread Molasses rolls

A new favorite.  Brown bread molasses rolls served with shaved cheese and honeycomb.

Pour 1 C. of water into the bowl of your mixer.  Add 5 tsp. of rapid rise yeast, 1 egg, 2 T. softened butter, 1/4 C. honey, 3 T. molasses, 2 T. baking cocoa, 1 tsp. salt and 1/4 C. dark brown sugar.  Mix it all together.
Add 2 C. all purpose flour.  Then add 2 C. whole wheat flour.  You might need a bit more.  Mix until it forms a smooth ball.
Place the dough in a buttered bowl, cover it and let it rise for about 90 minutes.
Form it into a log and cut it into 15 pieces.

Butter an oblong pan. Form the dough into rolls, place them in the pan, cover it and let them rise for about an hour.

Bake them at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
This is shaved crucolo cheese and double gloucester. The shaved cheese melts when placed on the hot rolls.  If you haven't eaten honeycomb you really should give it a try. It is delicious eaten with cheese.

That is a delicious bread! and it can almost not become better than when the cheese melts on it :-) Long time since I made this kind of bread though, I just keep on making the same kind on and on and ...

Have a great day!

I made this recipe a few weeks ago. I love the molasses bread served at Outback Restaurants and searched for a copycat recipe and this was it.The only difference was the recipe I used from copycat recipes.com called for a bit of strong coffee. Apparently this bread is also known as Steakhouse Bread in some parts of the country. Whatever you want to call it, it is delicious, moist & hearty. Next time I make them I will make the rolls. The way you served them sounds heavenly & I will have to try the honeycomb when I see some.

That looks scrumptious, especially with the cheese.
Looks wonderful, Joyce. I at least made chocolate chip cookies...love that bittersweet chocolate!

I have honey with drippings in it. I'm going to try it with shaved sharp cheese. Won't have bread that's nearly as good as your though, poor me!
