Strawberry Season

We took off early on Saturday and headed out to the country to look for strawberries. It's such a short season and I like to make pies to give to friends and jam which I put up so we can have these delectable berries all year long. I look for local berries which have just been picked because they have the best flavor.  We literally drive country roads looking for roadside stands.  I found a guy selling berries and rhubarb at the end of his driveway.  Perfect!  He only had 10 quarts and I bought them all.  Two of them are in one of the bags.  I was so excited to find them.
 Then I came home and had to hull them all which is not a lot of fun.

And I had enough extra ones to make several jars of jam.  I will be on the hunt next weekend to see if I can find more. I can't wait for blackberry season!

Those strawberries look scrumptious. You turned them into gold. Can't find fresh fruit stands like that around here. The pies are lovely. And that homemade jam delectable for sure.

Here the rhubarb is ripe but the strawberries sadly are not...Your pies are beautiful, do you line your pie plate with tin foil? There is nothing better than a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie...Summer is just around the corner!

The wild strawberries are in full bloom but lots of flowers got detroyed by one frost night a week agao and they think we might have fresh strawberries from the farms around midsummer, it has been just too cold here this spring.

I'll buy a lot this year and make jam and strawbwrry cream :-)

Oh gosh yes of course! It is the season for strawberries! Here in England, they are proud of their strawberries and we bought some, but I often find them raw, pale, too white on the inside and overall not good. I miss the strawberries from the Ile d'Orléans we have in Québec.

I rarely had strawberry pies, the big thing back where I come from is strawberry shortcake (a summery delight!) and of course strawberry jam. I used to make them by mashing strawberries and adding sugar, then throw the mash on the toast.

Yummy the pies look wonderful. I am picking my blackberries twice a day at this point! I find if I do it this way I can beat the birds and squirrels to them usually :o)

Strawberry jam-my daughter's favorite. I'll have to go hunting for a local farm. I love strawberry-rhubarb jam.

I am going to look for local strawberries this weekend! I've been craving them, but there aren't any in the local green grocer, so I'll check the farmers market. I'd love to make the pie, but I'd eat the entire thing myself, so I think jam is in order.
