I made this bread for the first time yesterday and wow...this is a really good recipe! I doubled it to make 2 loaves. I'll give you the recipe for a single loaf. |
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2-1/2 tsp rapid rise yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Asiago cheese, divided
- 1 beaten egg for brushing the loaf
Mix everything together reserving 1/2 cup of the cheese, knead and place in a buttered bowl. This is a sticky dough so don't be tempted to add more flour. Cover and let it rise for 2 hours. It rises slowly but really expands while baking. Form it into a loaf and place it on parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Let it rise about 30 minutes. Brush the loaf with a beaten egg and sprinkle it with the remaining grated cheese.
Bake it at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes until golden. Cool on a rack.

I quite often put cheese in my breads when I have small pieces left and it always make the bread yummy :-)
Have a great day!
