A Trip to the Farmer's Market Up in the Mountains

We left early on Saturday because the market opens at 7:45 am.  Here we are flying down the highway at the top of the mountains.  It was a glorious morning.

Once off the highway we drove through beautiful rural areas.

Off in the distance you can see where the fog had settled over the little town.  It was a wonderfully chilly morning.

The homes in this area sit on acres of land.  Most have horses.

As early as we arrived, it was crowded.

Local honey.

Handmade string instruments.

The rugs in this tent were gorgeous. They are crocheted rag rugs.

Homemade soap and lip balm.

Pepperoni rolls.  An Appalachian treat.

Lot's of booths sell local meat.

We've had so much rain that the parking and booths set up had to be changed.  The fields were like walking on wet sponges.

This market maintains their own cute garden, tended to by locals.

Homemade pickles and kim chi.  It's berry season and everyone had lots of berries for sale.

Berry pies and berry flavored lemonade.  The jug of blueberry lemonade came home with us.

Amish made crafts.

Beets of all colors and radishes.

Look at the size of these tomatoes!

Carrots, onions and more beets.

I came home with onions and scapes.  I bought more Amish butter and am making scape butter today. It will be served with some homemade bread alongside the Italian dinner we are having today.  Tomorrow, I'll show you what I made.

Everything looks so lovely. Here we won't have a local farmer's market until next month, and it's not in such setting.
