The New Gazebo

The new gazebo is in place and the builder was well fed for 3 days. This is the 3rd time I've had a gazebo built on this spot.  The first two were done by our builders who are very high profile and expensive.  They did a decent job the first time and a very lackluster job the second time.  It was very disappointing.

The first two were built out of black locusts which eventually returned to mother earth.  Though, they would have lasted longer if properly constructed.  This one is built like a brick shithouse!

It will outlive us by many years. Standing in it makes you feel like you are in a woodland chapel.

It has a sandstone floor.

I hired a really talented guy I met at a craft fair.  He is the one that is about to build my tool shed I showed you a while ago.

He chiseled the supports to make them look like timbers and he duplicated the trusses from the guest house to carry over the theme.

This was build using high-grade wolmanized lumber but custom cut by him to make it look more natural to blend in with the surroundings.

We left the roof open because the weeping beech will canopy over it eventually.

Now I need to plant the perimeter and decorate it. My head is swimming with ideas. I'm also going to add lights.

Lovely, can you at a later date cover the top. I was thinking how nice it would be siting there when it was raining. Just a thought.

we don't want to cover the top because it will be under a canopy of the weeping beech.
Nice! You can tell he's a real craftsman by his attention to details.

Beautiful construction. Not only lovely to look at but I think it will become quite a sacred space, enjoy it. Blessings to you.

I can see something out of Lord of the Rings by looking at the pictures. I see some sort of floral vine weaving it's way around the posts. It has a ompletely ethereal look to it. Peaceful.

Wonderful and so organic by removing the uniformity of the wood and its placement. I predict a long, happy collaboration between you two. After the shed perhaps a few benches in this style tucked into special spots, the possibilities are endless!

Lovely gazebo. I'd love to read in there, especially in autumn.
That is lovely and totally not what I expected.

That looks so great Joyce! I love seeing all of those photos, can wait to see what it looks like after you figure out what plants you'll choose! Well done to the young man who built it!
