Soup On a Cold Rainy Day

A few days ago I made 45 quarts of cauliflower soup with small pasta shells for the homeless shelter.  I put lots of fresh vegetables in it because they usually only get canned soup.

Yesterday was a cold, damp, bone chilling day.  And this is said by someone who rarely gets cold.  I got up really early and made a bunch of loves of french bread.

I look like this quite often these days.  Check out my war wound on the base of my thumb.  The wonky thumb is still not back to normal after the carnage of almost cutting it off last year.  I think it is about as good as it will ever be.  It works pretty well.

Ready to rise.

Fresh from the oven.

I made a huge pot of sauerkraut soup and took it along with the bread to the shelter.  There was a line of freezing men all the way down the block when I arrived.  When they saw me coming they were yelling...here comes the chicken and dumpling lady.  I've been called a lot of things in my life but this was a first!  I guess I will have to make more C&D soon.

I was actually thinking of Your thumb today after looking at my own :-) Mine is ok but it feels like I have two thumbs so it can be tricky to pick up small things, my brain can't decide which thumb I should use :-) :-) :-)

That was a great name You've gotten :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

You are a good and kind soul. There is a special spot saved for you in Heaven!

-Sherry-
That's where you *tried to* cut your thumb off!!!!! I never knew the exact spot.

But that certainly was the *proper* spot, for *trying* to cut it off, from the rest of your body! -sigh-

Glad it's back working, as well as it is back.

BE CAREFUL from now on! "Auntie" sezzzzzz...... :-)

You are such an angel of mercy. You created a lot of happy bellies, dear.
You are so nice to cook for these people. I worry so about the homeless in this cold weather.
My Mom used to make chicken and dumplings once in a while when I was a kid. It was always a favourite treat!

Seems like you are creating quite a stir (no pun intended) in the soup kitchen cluinary world. I bet you never thought you would be branded the " C&D Lady ". A fine reputation indeed. Sounds like an encore is in order. When do the chicken legs on sale again? Your near thumblessness makes me shiver at the thoght. Be careful out there.

Being called the chicken and dumpling lady is the same as calling you a beautiful person :)

Ditto to all the comments saying what a good thing you are doing. And....my husband almost cut off his index finger 2 years ago with a band saw. Even nicked out some little chunks of bone. That finger is curved like Capt. Hook's "hand" and the scar is still touchy, but it works fairly well. We both worked for the Fire Dept. and we had our share of fellow employees who were missing fingers, so having it "still attached" is a good thing.....;-)
