Amish Doughnuts

My Daughter and I went out exploring Amish country north of us yesterday.  We found a very cute market in a small college town and they were selling Amish doughnuts. I don't like doughnuts but everyone else around here does and they all say these are the best doughnuts you can eat.  They are larger than your hand too.  We brought some home for my husband.

During the winter months, I am a tea drinker and I drink mine with milk and honey.  I enjoy buying local honey and trying different flavors. We are surrounded by apiaries so there is always a new variety to try.

Apiaries such as this are also called bee yards.

I bought some potatoes which this lady had just harvested.

Corn and onions came home with me too.

Fresh carrots are one of my favorite things to buy at farmer's markets.

I always grow my own celery. Store bought celery pales in comparison to homegrown.  However, you rarely find it for sale.  It looks so different from what most people think celery should look like and the flavor is much more intense.  I was surprised to see some for sale.

You never know what you might see when you go to these markets but I was delighted to come across this vintage Plymouth!

This might have been the original hatchback.  I wish I knew the year and model.  I'm guessing it was from the early 1960's.

This market is held in a very cute building.

The planters surrounding the building were planted with flowers, herbs and tomatoes.

Local eggs, meat, cheese and more.

This building was so interesting.  The pic is awful but the wood actually has faces carved in it.

Though it was about a billion degrees, we still had a fun time.

Can you post a picture of the celery? Our Farmer's Market has fresh eggs, cheese, and locally butchered meat. I love it.

the celery at the market is in the pic where i spoke about it. if you want a pic of my celery, let me know.
I'm guessing the vintage Plymouth did NOT belong to the Amish, lol!

This farmer's market carries more product than I have ever seen before. It looks outstanding. I've never had farm fresh celery. Now it's on my must have list. The heat continues here too. 6 AM starts cool(with slight warmth) and it rises quickly.

That was the first design Plymouth Barracuda, and looks to be in great condition too. From West coast US, I’m surprised there is not a group of drooling auto buffs around it, but good that there is not. Personally, I did drool a bit on my iPad for both your great market and the car,

I would have gone crazy in a place like that. Around here I have to wait until the end of September. The roadside farmers come out in droves because they can't afford the farmer's market fee. They also sell more on the roadside. I usually wait for them because I buy the best veggies for my soups and stews in the winter months. Also, the veggies from the farmers DO taste more intense and oh so much better than store-bought which makes for a better tasting meal. I also noticed fresh eggs from a farmer make for a richer creamier-tasting cheesecake.

I often think about setting up a bee farm. A neighbor close to me has one and I know two other people that have them.

It has been "a billion degrees" here in Kansas for weeks, but all of the sudden, we are in the low eighties and pleasant! I loved your pictures of the market....
