The Garden

As much as running water makes things seem cool, you can almost see the heat in this photo.  I've never liked summer so this new trend of hotter summers is just plain wicked.

I get out early in the morning to garden, just as the sun comes up.  And it's still hot!

We finished putting the pebbles down between the stones on the patio.  I like it so much better now and the pebbles sure keep the weeds at bay.

The humidity has been awful too.  The pups are bored and hardly leave the house.

I water every day.  I am finding that plants that usually start dying back at the end of summer are already starting to die back now. Has anyone else noticed this?

Enlarging this patio last year was a really good decision.  It's made the whole area much more usable.

My celery is doing very nicely growing inside it's cage.  The groundhogs can't get to it!

This is another weird thing that has happened this year.  My lilies are growing like they are on steroids.  They are over 6 feet tall and each flower is larger than my head.

Why?  We've had very dry periods and then very rainy periods.  Maybe this is the reason?  You can smell them from the street.

It all looks so cool, but I believe you when you say it is hot. I suppose it is the water, greenery and shade that make it look that way. I have never seen a lily that tall. I wish I had a cage for tomatoes so they would not be nibbled.
Glad you outsmarted the groundhogs! And wow, those lilies!

Hi Joyce, we're in SE Washington state (my NJ bred husband is so happy to live where it's dry, but he does miss the food). Even though it's dry, the increasing heat has changed everything! My lilies have reached 8-9 feet the past two years, and this year I've noticed the mass alyssum plantings we do every year on either side of our bluestone walkway are looking like they do in late fall. Other plants are thriving that should not in this heat (100+ today). Mother Nature is terribly confused! So know that it isn't just your beautiful garden (husband just said please send Kielbasa LOL).

Your patio is beautiful! I think a chaise lounge would be the perfect spot for my after lunch snooze!

Weird summer here, with some flowers (violas) dying back early, and others (ladybells) over performing.
Lovely garden!

I have always dreamed of living in a cooler climate, but fear there is no such thing now.
