A Weird Party

The Blog Tech was going to a party on Saturday night and when I heard what kind of a party it was, I thought  I needed to send some food along with him. His friend was throwing a 'tinned fish' party. Everyone had to bring an entree made out of tinned fish....gross!  But sort of fun too! The Blog Tech made two sardine pies. Puke!  I figured I should send some real food as a fallback.  So, I made some zucchini casseroles with some farm fresh zucchini I had just bought.

The people attending the party love my pickled beets so I made some for all of them. Hola!  Cutting all of those beets took forever.  Those buggers are like chopping rocks.  I actually have a sore wrist right now.

My hands are still red from working with so many beets.

A lot of beets!

I made 4 dozen hard boiled eggs to add to them too.  All of these recipes can be found by typing them into my sidebar.

I made a buttermilk pecan cake and a sweet cornbread too.  One person ate the entire cornbread before dinner started.  Weird but what can I say, it's killer cornbread. I also sent a jar of pickled watermelon rind I had just canned.  I figured what the hell, it fit the weird theme so well.

I saw The Blog Tech's favorite Halloween cereal from when he was little and sent a few boxes of it for him to enjoy for breakfast.  He was very happy to see it. Apparently, they all had a blast.

Delicious! You can always tell when someone has been cooking with beets!

Were you listening to this song the whole time?

If tinned fish was the theme, I wonder how the tinned fish recipes went over. I would like tuna salad or salmon croquettes, but a casserole? I would eat the zucchini casserole first.

Sounds like a fun party. And there are a few things made with tinned fish which I love: salmon bechamel, that sardines and chili pasta I used to make, those tuna pies... When I was studying at uni here in England, one of my American housemates had suggested we make a party made of every weird/gross things we could find in tins or in jars the Brits had, like mushy peas. We never did it, but maybe it comes from the same tradition as the Blog Tech's party.

Oh and the food you made all looks delicious.

It all looks grand~ Wear nurse gloves when you cook with things like beets. I wear them more in the kitchen sometimes than at work. Linda in Kansas

An unconventional menu, but sounds like they all had a good time. That's what counts.
