The Really Fun Christmas Trip From Hell

December 20th

Avi. Avi is a cloth merchant from the town of Hebron, just outside of Bethlehem, where he lives with his wife Isabel, and their two children Talia and Aaron. Avi is constantly traveling to all the towns in the area in order to sell his cloth, and has a reputation for carrying only the finest cloth available; beautiful, rich and colorful fabrics. But on this particular trip home from Jerusalem, Avi learns that his family and many others have traveled to Bethlehem to see a special new baby born in a stable. Avi decides to go to Bethlehem, too, and will offer the mother of this new baby a gift of his finest cloth.

When I got up at 5:00 am to leave for the trip, this is what my gardening bench looked like.

We were about to head off on our day trip to deliver presents, buy some new ones and drive my daughter's boyfriend home for Christmas.

Teddy hit the snow running and eating it at the same time.

A beautiful early winter morning.

As the sun came up it was even more beautiful.

I can't get enough of this kind of weather.

And then we started seeing this.

And a lot of these.

And these too.

Wow....I think people were injured in the making of this post.

It's been a long time since I drove in conditions this bad.

So, we sang Christmas carols at the top of our lungs and hoped the damage was just to the cars and trucks and that no one was hurt too badly. And then the alternator went in my car. We were stranded just off the highway while waiting to be towed. I, of course, did not think to take pictures at all during this whole process. We waited for hours for the car to be towed and then had to wait for a taxi to take us back in the opposite direction to the airport to pick up a rental car. Then we had to drive the rental car back again onto the highway with the awful driving conditions.

At this point I had spent about 400.00 and still had the whole trip ahead of us, now driving the rental on black ice.

And saw a lot of these.

And a lot more of this. So, we started to sing Christmas carols again and laughed our whole way home. Now we get to do it again because we have to drive all the way back to pick up our car when it is repaired. Tis the season to be jolly!

Oh my stars! My stomach tightened up just looking at what you were driving through. I've had enough of white knuckle driving back and forth to work, so I can relate to what you were going through! White outs are nasty enough, but I think that black ice is the worst because so many other drivers don't realize how slick it really is until it is too late.

I'm so sorry that you had car trouble on top of it! Of course, the alternator picked THAT trip to give out! It sounds like you kept your cool, and your sense of humor throughout it though, and made it back home safely, which is the important thing! And hopefully the weather will clear, along with the roads when you go back to get your car.

Relieved Hugs!!

I'm glad you got home safe and sound!

Thank goodness you are all fine - those roads look might treacherous! I hope the rental had winter tires - they aren't required on rentals in most of Canada which can make winter car renting a little more dangerous than people are aware... Hoe the rest of your day is merry!

I got a bit worried when I heard about the bad weather where You live, thinking about Your trip, but thought that You of course wouldn´t get out on the roads if it was to bad :-) :-) The most southern part of Sweden were also hit by snowstorms as bad as Yours I heard.

To bad about Your car! These things always happens when it´s the worst time for it. I´m so happy that nothing worse happened!
Take care now!
Christer.
Oh my, I just hate to have to go out in weather like yours. I don't mind if I can sit home and enjoy but when you hafta get out there....oh my. I am so glad you are home safe and sound.

Man. We are of course having 40 - 50* weather. After that cold snap. Things are just all out of proportion.
I am glad you are back safe and sound. Well except for your car...but that can be easily fixed.

I think I can put on hold my dreams of having one white Christmas just yet. All that money at this time of year. Arrgh.

I am so glad you are home safe! I was getting more worried with each picture you posted - I almost scrolled down to the end to make sure you weren't in the ditch yourself!

Please be safe when you go back!
