Great Spring Recipes and New Thrift Finds

Excuse the head shadow! These sammies are great. They are a slight twist on grilled cheese. You can cut them into pieces and serve them as appetizers. My kids even eat them cold! I used homemade bread but you can use any kind you like. You can also use any kind of cheese you like and even combine cheeses. I don't like anything too spicy hot so I used mild jalapenos in this recipe. They add the flavor but not the heat. I also used slices of cheddar.

I spread both sides with my homemade compound butter. To keep it really simple, you could just mix some butter with garlic powder.

Place them in a hot heavy pan and cook until golden.

Looking good.

Tasting better!

This is my favorite way to prepare and eat asparagus. Cut the tough ends off of one bunch of asparagus.

Melt some butter and a couple tablespoons of olive oil over high heat and lay the asparagus in one layer. Cook turning them until they begin to brown. You need to do this over high heat so they will brown on the outside but still be crisp on the inside. Never overcook asparagus.

Crumble some good goat cheese.

When the asparagus is ready, drizzle some pesto mixed with a bit of liquid smoke (this makes all the difference in the world so don't skip it) across the spears.

Cover the pesto with the goat cheese and drizzle all of the leftover drippings from the pan over the asparagus. Yum Yum Yum!!! This would be really good served over some plain angel hair pasta for a meal.

I ran to a couple thrift stores yesterday and for the first time I actually left one without buying anything.....a miracle. Not that there wasn't some cool stuff but I am getting more selective and running out of room! At another store, I couldn't pass up this heavy enameled Rachael Ray pan for 2.49. It is oval and only about 9 inches so I am not really sure what kind of pan it is.

And I found two more little porcelain farmer people for my potting table....1.99.

A nice mortar and pestle.

And these four mini souffles were only 79 cents each.

Apilco from France.

These nice pottery plates were only 49 cents each. They will be great outside with candles on them.

Try putting a cookie sheet in the over at 400 for 10 mins. Then put on heat resistant gloves and roll some olive oil all around the cookie sheet. Add the asparagus and roll them from side to side. Add italian seasoning and bake at 400 degrees for no more than 10 mins so they stay crisp. Remove from oven and sprinkle with white vinegar wine. Walla! Delicious! I'll try your recipe, you try mine.
Yum now I'm hungry for grilled cheese.
The Thrift Queen wins again! Beautiful finds. I especially like the green pottery plates. Green being my very most favorite color.

I like your twist on the grilled cheese sandwiches! And asparagus, I love them all!

Now, that's a grilled cheese sandwich. Yummy. Love the asparagus recipe, too. I've never gotten into figurines. It's probably because it was MY job to dust each and every one of my mother's figurines on Saturday mornings! But, these are lovely and I may end up getting some of my own in my later years...will think about it...come visit when you can...
Teddy just had some grilled cheese for lunch today...well, some of mommy and daddy's...no jalepenjo though....

Teddy had a ball this morning helping mommy plant some sunflowers, corn and pumpkins....some seeds that i found last night that i forgot i had...kinda late...but in they went..and somebody had a BLAST...chasing the hose water...digging in the dirt...racing around with the seed packets...he was so dirty...it was making me nervous, but daddy said, let him be a dog..he is a puppy having so much fun..so i let it go...he has all summer to play in the garden...so we just gave out baby a warm bath and a blow dry and he is sound asleep on my shoulder....

LOVE your thrift shop finds...

wish Teddy and I were there to go with you...me like-ee some thrift shopping....

sending love

Grilled cheese has always been my comfort food. Nice take on it! I always use several different kinds of cheese (and sometimes tomato slices and basil.)

Love the little glass plates!

I LOVE jalepeno grilled cheese
Those little white (what are they called?) bowls are so neat. I have just one and am looking for more. I like to use them in so many ways. I actually found a lovely one with roses on it and I use it for salt by the stove. You know, a pinch of salt? :)

p.s. I NEVER thought of making grilled cheese sandwiches and adding garlic powder to the butter!! I can't wait to try this one!
