The Durian Fruit

Addendum to the Durian Fruit Video

I wanted to like the Durian Fruit. I really did. The idea of a fruit that tastes like caramel flan was exciting-still is exciting, in fact. And I almost managed to like it. But that smell....Imagine a very bad smell, like rotten food or garbage, and then imagine if that smell got really angry at you and decided it was going to get you.

I opened the freezer tonight, twenty-four hours having passed since placing two sealed tupperware containers full of durian fruit within it. Much to my surprise and horror, the freezer smelled of the fruit! And the freezing did nothing to quell the odor. I have thrown out the two pieces of tupperware because they have demons in them and mere detergents and dishwashers are useless.

The big question still on my mind is this: who was the first guy to eat one of these and enjoy it? They are sold in markets, after all. Someone *must* like them, though I haven't personally met any of these people. One person I know says they are good in smoothies so long as someone else makes them, but I fear that I'll have to throw my entire refrigerator out before having the opportunity to make one of these 'smoothies'.

My advice: beware the Durian Fruit. It is not your friend. It's spiky shell clearly indicates that it wants to be left alone, and it's best to do as it wishes.

Ok, morbid curiosity is getting the best of me with this strange fruit. I guess that it's lucky that I'm not near any Asian markets or else I would be buying one.
Hilarious! Oh, they are brave young people. I have lived vicariously through them.
Oooohhh, I expected the thing to squeal and tremble when the Blog Tech cut into it. I think this would be a fun activity to do with our three teenagers and their friends around Samhain... Maybe sit in front of a big barn fan during the process....

Peace,
Chris..........

Oh...this was almost painful to watch...the gagging...They are braver folks than me!
I have never heard of this fruit before, but I shall certainly steer clear. They were really brave!

lol Jaz ! I had the same question who on earth was the first starving cave person to try thAT HORRID FRUIT !
I know it is big here in our philipino community . They also love and cook the most puetrid smelling stinky fish you ever smelled . Like the kind of rotten dumpster fish smell . They cook it out side in summer months too so it drifts thru the neighbourhood.
I do have a curiousity of why and what kind of fish and how do they eat it .
I think you are best to stick to carmel faln anyway . although will you now have an aversion to it after that fruit experience ☺

The spell for getting rid of that smell was in the last spell book you gave away, I'm sure of it... so sorry... you're asking the very question I ask all the time when faced with some really strange food -- who was the first... must have been VERY hungry... I thank you for the heads up and I will definitely stay away from the durian...

Put a bowl of baking soda in your fridge to absorb the odours. If that doesn't work find some activated charcole. I hope your fridge can be saved!
I will avoid the durian fruit! Thanks for the warning.

I applaud your bravery you two. Something that smells like garbage and looks like rubbery scrambled eggs will never enter my mouth.

That even looked disgusting! I would hate to be in the bathroom later...what goes in must come out! O.K. that was bad. Yuck
Wonderful video :-) :-) The Blog tech and his girlfriend gave me many laughters and convinsed me that this is something I must never try :-) :-) :-)

Tell them that I think they were brave both of them :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.
I passed this post off to my sister in law (mentioned her previously) - she has not stopped laughing yet.

It is hard to make her laugh. So thank you.

And, she said to say that she feels sorry for you...or something like that...she was laughing to hard to make out clearly what she was saying :D

Oh, and she likes Teddy too.

Cheers!

Oh how funny and interesting. I think I will take your word on it, as I now have NO desire to ever try this hideous smelling fruit. (really the expression on her face when he cut into it was enough! LOL)

I never liked it either, Jaz! My mom loves and makes a jam that everybody says it's delicious, but I can't try it, arght. I'm glad I'm not alone! lol

When we lived in Rio, we used to go to a park where dozens of durian fruit trees were around. Beautiful trees, dangerous fruits if they decide falling! I have photos of them somewhere, when I find,I'll post them and I'll let you know!

Kisses from us.
