Rushing Halloween

I cheated, I saw these at the store yesterday and thought they looked close enough to pumpkins so I bought them and put them on the potting table. They will have to hold me over until the real thing is ready. I took a deep breath this morning and realized I better slow myself down and start enjoying every little bit of the coming season because it will be here and gone before you know it. The rest of the year seems to drag by and then Fall arrives and it is January 1st before you know it. In nine more days we will be 4 months away from Christmas. I can hardly think about it.

I pulled out a few vintage Halloween items this morning. Above you can see some of my cauldron collection. I assume the sterling cauldron on the tripod is a salt cellar but it has no liner so I am not sure I am right about that. I've never figured out what the other sterling piece was used for. It has a mirror on the base.

I found these witch cake toppers at a thrift store for 25 cents.

This scarecrow is from the 50's and was a thrift shop find.

As was this jack o 'lantern. It was 25 cents too.

I get so excited when I find old magazines in good shape. This one was preserved in plastic.

October magazines are really hard to find at a good price.

This cost 25 cents in 1939!

This is very old and fragile. I bought it last year and this year I intend to frame it. Great graphics!

This is new. I bought it in Maine last year.

It's like a Christmas calendar. You count down the days until Halloween!

This was hard to photograph but is a really great piece. It is from Hallmark and probably from the 60's.

It folds open and the witch and cauldron are right in the middle.

It has amazing detail.

This is an article from a vintage magazine probably from the 40's.

It shows how to set up a place setting Halloween game.

Sorry I couldn't get better pics.

Some neat finds! Your blog makes me want to decorate for Halloween, except we never get any trick-or-treaters out here in the country. It is probably the ONLY thing I kind of miss about living in town.

When I first moved out here there was some old newspapers and magazines in the attic of the old farm house. Some dated back to the 40's and 50's. It was interesting to look at them and see how different the price of things were back then.

My fortune cards have arrived and they are wonderful. I can't wait to try them with some girlfriends- a good excuse for a party. Thank you so much. Lorrie
Do you know how nice it is to know I am not ALONE in pushing time? I went through some of Fall things in the garage today and was tempted to start decorating. Like you, I am trying to slow myself down and enjoy the now. Last year I had Fall up by the end of August!
If I remember right, by September 1, I had my blog background changed for Fall.
I LOVED the fold out of the witch and you can even see the cauldron pouring...it's GREAT! How lucky to find all those goodies. I cannot wait to bring out my witches!
It's coming...Fall, Halloween, the colors the FEELING and I can't wait. Ok..I can, but it's hard somethings. :)

Mona

p.s. Joyce, thank you for your comment and encouragement about Howard. It's been hard on him.
Oh such fabulous stuff you have there Jaz! I especially love the Witch cake toppers and the Halloween edition magazine! And you are so right about slowing down to enjoy the season as much we enjoy preparing for it. It all goes by so fast nowadays. {sigh}

I like the Hallmark book.

I thought of you over the weekend when I was out of town, because we stopped into the Cracker Barrel for a dinner and they had all the Halloween stuff on display… Every piece made me wonder whether not you already had one or whether you only used vintage Halloween items… But you might want to run down to one and check out what will ultimately be vintage…

These were great and your photos were good enough that I could figure out what they were, so don't beat yourself too much…

I really love the art in the last photo. It amazes me that people knew enough to preserve these treasures for those of us who love to collect!

Can't wait to see more pics as you unpack your Halloween treasures!
