Welcoming Rolls

This is an exceptional recipe for wonderful rolls. Whenever you want to welcome a new neighbor, make someone feel better or just make someones day, make these rolls. Or make them as a treat for yourself! Click for closer scrumptiousness!!!

In the bowl of your mixer, add 4 1/2 cups of bread flour, 3 tsp. of instant yeast, 1 tsp. salt and 1/2 cup of sugar.

Melt 1 stick of butter (8 tablespoons) in a heavy pan.

Beat 2 eggs together.

Temper the eggs by adding a bit of the hot butter slowly to the eggs until they are warm. Them add the eggs to the rest of the butter.

Stir 1 cup of milk into the egg/butter mix. Add this liquid to the dry ingredients and knead until you have a smooth dough.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap and allow it to double in bulk.

I roll this out on a pastry cloth. Wherever you roll it out, sprinkle the surface lightly with flour.

I use a ruled rolling pin to measure.

Roll it out to about 18 inches in diameter.

Cut it into fourths.

Then cut each quarter in half (eighths).

Then cut each piece in half again (sixteenths). I am a math genius!

Spread each piece with melted butter. It is actually better to spread the whole surface before you cut it which I obviously forgot to do! I am not always a genius.

Roll each piece from the wide end towards the point.

I had some bruschetta topping which I made yesterday and I spread some of it on a few of the wedges.

Place the rolls seam side down so they don't unroll while cooking.

Allow them to rest on cookie sheets until they have risen a bit.

Brush the tops with melted butter.

I also cracked some sea salt on top of them.

Aren't they cute?! Bake them at 350 degrees for 10-12 mintues until they are golden.

Straight out of the oven. These are certain to make someone feel welcome!

Delicious!
My grandmother used to do those, but usually with something sweet in them instead, like apple sauce :-)

Have a great day now!

You are just a cooking fool!!!! Love the pasta cake! I am gaining weight just looking at the pictures! So....you have started decorating this early huh? I can only imagine what it will look like when you are done. My garden has engulfed itself. I have developed tomato hornworms and the heat won't let up enough for me to get out there. I HATE the heat and it makes me sick. What a nice thing to come here and check out your wonderful cooking skills. Did you used to be a chef?
