Football Appetizers

Here is another recipe that is sure to make your football fans happy. I use this same recipe to marinate flank steaks for the grill and people can't get enough of it. Make your own meatballs or buy them, the sauce is so good that no one will notice. I recently made 120 of these for my daughter's party and not one was left. I handed a bowl of them over to the Blog Tech and within minutes he ate 12.

For the meatball recipe, I add chunks of red and green peppers. Leave them out if you use this to marinate flank steaks.

The recipe:

1 CUP SOY SAUCE

1 1/2 CUPS WATER

GRATED FRESH GINGER (about 6 tablespoons)

6 GARLIC CLOVES (diced)

1 1/2 CUPS DARK BROWN SUGAR

1/2 CUP WHISKEY

I also added some chunks of Poblano peppers.

Place the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, ginger and garlic in a pot and bring it to a boil until the sugar dissolves. Turn off the heat and add the chopped peppers.

Pour in the whiskey.

For the meatballs, I like to thicken the sauce so I add 2 T. of soft butter mixed with 3 T. of flour. Whisk this in to the sauce and cook until slightly thickened. If you use this as a marinate for flank steak, skip this step.

This is what it looks like when it is ready.

Add the meatballs which have already been cooked. Gently heat until warmed through. Serve in a big bowl with toothpicks.

Meatballs are never wrong :-) But we call them frikadeller if we boil them :-) I´ve never mad frikadeller so I really don´t know if there´s any difference in the recipe.

Have a great day now!
Christer.

With the whiskey, i cant imagine this not tasting "Super"
Now we're talkin', whiskey in the sauce. I would have to serve big chunks of No Knead Bread with this for sopping up that heavely sauce.
Following Christer's lead, those frikadellers look frickin' good!
"Pour in the whiskey."

You do know how to get my attention! ,-)

Gentle January hugs...

Salivating. You really have a thing for poblanos, don't you? Is that recent or of long standing? I have found them to be so variable in heat that I don't trust them.

Does this mean I have to start liking football?!?!?!? Doesn't matter, this is a keeper -- a main meal -- a No-Knead Bread companion -- oh, my, lordy, I have to catch my breath... Now, if you use this for a marinade for the flank steaks, do you create the same sauce for the meal? Just askin'... Come visit when you can and don't forget to check out my other blog, Rockin' Chair Reflections... and, hug Teddy for me!
Wow, this looks like a keeper! Happy New Year!
