The Cone Comes Off: The Follow-up to Teddy's Surgery

At 5:00 am this morning, my dad, myself and Teddy began the drive to the Veterinary Hospital in Ohio to get her eyes checked and her cone removed. I don't actually remember having done so, however, because I don't normally wake up when there are still stars in the sky. My first conscious memory from this morning is of the scenic parking lot of a McDonald's, as shown above. Teddy knows when she is going to the Vet, and it is by no means one of her favorite places, but she always gets fed an egg McMuffin (no butter or cheese) on car rides like this, and it's quite a treat for Teddy. A spoonful of Egg McMuffin helps the Veterinary Hospital go down....
Here we see Teddy looking for any sign of her egg McMuffin.
Here's me, very sleepy.
Egg McMuffin sighted!
My dad is in the midst of a dangerous task. Teddy's teeth are nothing to joke about, and when she's in eating mode, forget about it. This isn't much different from getting within an inch of a wood chipper.
Mere seconds later....
The food is gone!
Here, my dad feeds Teddy her sedative wrapped in some kind of Cream Cheese ball. Teddy does not like strangers, other animals, or stressful situations, and she's about to experience all three. The Veterinary Hospital wisely asked us to give her something to calm her nerves prior to bringing her.
One pill makes you larger...
And one pill makes you small....
And the ones that the Vet prescribes you....
You get the picture. I tried to tell Teddy that freedom from the cone was imminent, but this look has a definite "What cone?" quality to it.

The parking lot of the Vet.
And the Hannibal Lecter-ish muzzle that we are bringing in the event that Teddy's pill suddenly wears off.
Puppy lift!
First you put on the leash....
Which can be tricky...
And then you lift!
My dad and Teddy walking towards the door of the Vet.
I won't be taking pictures from inside the Vet, but I will be sure to write as soon as I am able in order to give you all the conclusion to the story! I am writing this entry quickly because Teddy isn't expected to take too long on this trip, and I know she isn't gonna want to wait around in the parking lot while I finish typing. Currently, my dad and I are in the waiting room as the doctors check on Teddy's eyes. I haven't heard any "I just got bit by a Chow Chow" cries of pain so far....

Update:
I am now sitting in the car with Teddy waiting for my dad to finish the paperwork. The doctor says she did great; there was no barking, biting, or crying, even when she was having her eye stitches removed. Unfortunately she has to wear the cone another two days! But the surgery was a complete success, and Teddy's eyes look great.

Great news that the eyes look great. Still another two cone days for Teddy. I'm sure she will get through those with flying colors. Maybe she's getting used to it by now and will miss it when it's gone. I don't think so ; )
Good luck Teddy and it's just another two days, hang in there !!!

Wow! Thanks for Teddy's pictorial journey! I know that she can be a handful (as your Dad can attest to. .good thing he has a strong back!), but she looks so darn cute. She probably knows it too, and uses it to her advantage whenever she can.

I'm so happy that her surgery was a success! And that she was a good girl for the staff. Maybe one of Mama's special treats (like some seafood), will make it up to her for having to wear the cone for another couple of days.

And um. . .I notice how you worded, that you normally don't get up that early, but I'm assuming that doesn't include the number of times that you've watched the sunrise, having been up all night. .that's ok. .I won't tell Mom. .although I'm thinking that she already knows!

I am so happy to hear that the surgery was a success but of course, sad that the cone has to stay on for another two days.

I´m so glad that everything went well at the vet! I guess the cone stay because there might be some left over itching from the stitches. Well soon she´ll be rid of it!

I´m so glad none of my dogs ever even been close to wear a muzzle like that :-) :-) :-)I went to the vet with one of my dogs today and I have to say he didn´t make a sound, not even when I would have if a doctor had tried me like that :-) :-) :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

That was a wonderful blow by blow account of Teddy's trip to the vets. I'm glad she got her egg mcmuffin and that everything went well. But so-ooo sorry to hear she has to wear the cone for another couple of days. Hang in there Teddy. It won't be long til you're FREE of it.

Only two more days, well after this long I guess that's doable. So glad to hear she is well-that's the important thing!
That was a great way to share the whole event! Good job to the Blog Tech and Dad!
That went well! Great post. Two days will go by in no time. I'm just happy she is doing so well. Back to normal soon.
So glad Teddys surgery went well. Poor thing -that miserable cone!

Oh, I was so wanting to see her pretty little face, today; but, I will wait for two days. Excellent pictorial journey, even if you were very sleepy. Your Mom would be proud.

What a wonderful chronicle : glad all went well for Teddy! I relate,as I just had a jaw bone fusion surgery & go to have my stitches removed tomorrow! I have to remember your clever, cream-cheese-ball trick : I usually dupe my doggie with peanut butter.
