Who doesn't like a classic patty melt?
They are so simple to make and kids love them. Press some ground beef into oval patties, sprinkle them with salt, pepper and granulated onion.
Spread rye bread with some Dijon mustard.
After the patties are done, add a sliced large onion to the pan and cook until browned.
Place a slice of cheddar and a slice of havarti on each piece of bread. You can use whichever cheeses you like.
Brush the outside of the bread with butter and cook them like you would a grilled cheese.
Make sure they brown on each side.
Peal them apart.
Add onions to one side and a patty to the other.
Press them together and serve with some pickles, homemade if you have them.

Not sure I've ever had something quite like this. Sounds like an awesome rainy day meal...
LOVE the onion, havarti and dijon on them. GREAT idea. How do you come up with these things. You need to do a cookbook.
I just got my carpel tunnel done, you are my new hero. I can't believe what you have done with one hand!!!!
These are so easy! And if i choose a fatless piece of meat and light cheese i can eat that! Yeih!!!
I would love one of these!:)
Believe it or not I love American cheese.

I have to admit, they do look good!
I'd love one of these even with just cheese and onions!
It is 9 pm in Anchorage as I read this post. I just got home from tennis and wish I had a patty melt waiting for me (instead of the 6 cookies and candies I just ate!)
That looks soooo good ; )
Thank you for sharing !!!
YUM! these sound delish! I've never made or eaten a patty melt, but I think I will be making them for lunch (or maybe even dinner) sometime soon!
I haven't had a patty melt in a long time and it sure looks good.
