Hot Hot Hot The Endless Summer

It is still hot and humid here.  Will we ever see cool weather again? What a year to decide to plant a container garden.  I water endlessly!  This is my pepper/lemon grass pot.  They are very happy growing together.

I have picked dozens of tomatoes.  Sometimes dozens in one day so they have done very well growing in containers. They have outgrown their cages too.

Two kinds of eggplants.  They have not done all that well. I think I have picked about 8 so far.  But that is just the Ichibans. This is the first fat one and it still has a long way to go.

I continue to make delectable pepper and cheese omelets with these beauties.

The bush tomatoes have done the best of all in the pots.

And alas.....my okra has finally flowered.  I had almost given up.  Will I get enough to make gumbo?  I sure hope so.

I predict many more peppers in my future.  You didn't know how psychic I am did you?

My baby bay leaf tree has doubled in size.

And my mums are blooming all over the gardens.

This pot of flowers has done very well probably because it is not in the blazing sun.

My hydrangeas put out double growth this year because of the heat so I had to cut them way back very early.

My flowers did not do as well as I hoped.  Most are perennials so I am hoping they will be better next year.

I will be trimming the mums soon hoping they will bloom again this fall.  How does your garden grow?

my garden grows as one pot of tomatoes, one geranium and one basil plant, pretty pathetic compared this beautiful photographic journey!
I hope cool air soon finds you.

You are so right about the container gardening....so sick of watering, sometimes twice a day. But the Fall magazines are starting to show up in the stores, which is a breath of fresh (cool) air, to sit and gaze at the many autumn scenes, decorating and recipes. The days are getting shorter too. It's coming.
You garden looks beautiful! I wish you had this half bushel of tomatoes in my kitchen and I could go take a nap.!

I have to say that most grows very well in my garden, at least when it comes to perennials.

My potted tomato plants are still only 12 inches high :-) It is way to cold for them this summer. But I did plant two in the flowerbed by my patio and they grow rather well. The small ones have tomatoes though, they high ones not.

I won't get any peppers this year I think. Maybe if I can have them in some sunny windows in autumn.

Have a great day!
Christer.

I hope things cool down for you soon.

I have no garden; just a courtyard area, so it doesn't grow, unfortunately. :(

We are currently visiting in Maryland and S Jersey - good grief - I had no idea how hot, humid and miserable you've been until now! At least your containers are doing well!
Cheers!
your okra is doing its best to give you a jumbo harvest!!...

Your garden shows some advantage to your heat!! It is beautiful. I went to the farmer's market about 11 last Sat. Am .Too late to buy the few tomatoes that they had to sell. We'll be lucky if their are any except for those who have a green house.

We have tried several times to grow eggplant, but have no luck. We have found some that are good at the Farmer's Market.

A break in the heat would be good, although we are now in the low-nineties and not near the hundreds anymore. Rain is much-needed.
It's been a while since I stopped by, your garden looks great. We've had a wonderful summer in New England so everything looks fantastic!

Other than the tomatoes and peppers, everything else has taken its time to grow. Okra puts out just enough for one person and I've yet to have my first eggplant! But, the flowers are there, so there has to be something happening in there. I did water my gardens in the morning, but, lately, we've had scads of rain and I've backed off a little. Your containers are gorgeous.
