A Big Icicle

This is a whopper of an icicle.

It is about 7 feet long and formed at the mouth of the scupper which dumps into the cistern.

Teddy wants to chew on it.  She loves icicles.

This one is too big for you puppy!

So sad.

Sorry about not posting yesterday.  I was so busy cooking for the shelter that I completely forgot to put up a post.

This is such an interesting adventure in cooking.  I found heads of cauliflower on sale for 99 cents.  I bought 6 big ones and made cauliflower soup.  45 quarts of it.

And I baked lots of rosemary bread.

To stretch the soup out, I added small pasta shells to it.  It actually improved an already great recipe. You can find it on my sidebar.

Cucumbers were also on sale..3 for 1.00.  I made 8 quarts of cucumber salad.  Apparently the shelter loves dishes like this since they are often short on fresh vegetables.

I also made bags of candied almonds.

I was told yesterday that Jesus is working through my hands, I have a special place in heaven, I should open a restaurant and Jesus is sending golden stairs to heaven for me.  I asked them to tell Jesus I can wait a while for that last blessing.  It's a lot of Jesus stuff to lay on an old pagan like me but I get the message!

-grin- Yup, the message is the same. :-)))) And it's all good.

Who-hooooo for the long icicle. We never got really long ones. They got just so far and... pooooof. Oh well, there's lots of winter time for long icicles left!

Most shelters are run by churches so you are going to encounter a lot of Jesus but no matter what the help is needed and is truly appreciated.

we can always use another friend, right, lol, you are an angel, I know I said that before but I mean it , I will have to make that soup!!! Your bread is always amazing, the gift that you're giving is just amazing.I know in our city the shelters get what food they can, and are glad for it but never ever would they get the quality of food that you prepare, don't get me wrong, the food is good just not like yours, such a wonderful gift for people who have so very little, yup, you're an angel,

I love Your response to them :-) :-) :-) But I do understand them :-)

I can imagine how happy they are at the shelter getting all that food, when times are tough they usually are much tougher for the poor.

Have a great day!
Christer.

I have never seen such a large icicle! That's incredible. Sorry Teddybut that's way too big for you! Your soup kitchen staff and guests must think THEY have died and gone to heaven with all this great food!

I've never seen an icicle that long around here!

You have done a great job working with what you find on sale! Such a great service!

Truly talented!
It's been snowing nearly all day here in Istanbul so I'm hoping to find some icicles like yours tomorrow when I'm out and about!

It reminds me of the icicles near my parent's place.

When I was a kid and we lived near Albany, NY we used to get icicles like that. I suspect it was an urban myth, but people always talked about them falling off roofs & impaling people. I think parents were just trying to scare the -rap out of us so we would stay away from them. On the other hand, when I see your icicle with that super sharp point the myth becomes a bit more credible. Tell Teddy to stay the heck away!
The soup and everything else looks wonderful. You must be getting quite a physical workout with all the stiring & mixing things up. How do you manage to get all of that food in & out of the car each time you make a run to the shelter?
You are doing a tremndous job. I wish I could get there and at least wash all the dishes after you are done working your magic.
Ha!
Cucumber salad sounds so good, and what a great price. Your wonderful nourishing food will be so good for the people who need it most.
Yay for you!
Whats your almond recipie?xx

You know, you could snap that big icicle off, stab someone to death with it and then the murder weapon would melt, leaving no clues behind. The perfect crime! I hope Jesus wasn't listening to me just now.

Hey .... you never know for sure....I'll just bet Jesus loves pagans too. Old pagans are wonderful....I have several close pagan friends, and better people you won't find. (You don't have to publish this...just wanted to "say");-)
