A Big Mess

As I was cooking yesterday, I glanced at my desk and really saw it for the first time in a while. It was a mess!  I had been turning a blind eye to it and when I focused on it, I was horrified.  I dropped everything and dove into cleaning it up.  Does this ever happen to you?  Having a mess and not seeing it? At first I was just going to clean off my desktop but once I started, it turned into a much bigger project. I took a good hard look at my cookbooks and got rid of at least 100 of them. I have at least a thousand more.  If anyone wonders how I learned to cook, this is a big part of it.

My kitchen looked like a bomb went off in it.

After several hours my desktop was very organized.

Much neater shelves and a good start in ridding myself of cookbooks.

Oh Joyce....I'm doing the same thing. Although I don't have nearly as many cookbooks as you do....I've thrown a good many of them away....and the funny thing is I rarely use a cookbook when I cook. LOL LOL go figure!!

I think cookbooks reproduce while sitting on the shelves. Sort of like hangers in closets. Both need a good clear out every once in a while.
Impressive! Yes, I think the cookbooks, books, fabric, WIP's multiply during the night at my house.

Life's so much easier if one puts a blind eye to the mess :-) :-) You had alsmost reached my level of messiness there :-) But I decided to clear it up bit by bit :-)

Have a great day!

Great job!!! I am doing the same thing in my studio in the basement. I started 4days ago and I am still at it :}
I've been on a huge minimalist phase and books I have found the hardest to let go of. But I am finding each time I go back to the area I've done before I am ready to let go of more items. It does become a tad addictive and an eye opener of just how many things/books we have in our homes that we do not need.

I think it's human nature, to "not see" some things. Those "messy" spots and the like.

Guess we have learned to sort of "protect" ourselves, over eons. Because some things just can't be done immediately. So our fore-fathers/mothers learned to "not see." When/where necessary.

Maybe??? LOL

That Floral Fete will not be held till the first of August. :-) I think it's so cool, that our city is really INTO this 150 year Ann. of Racing... By doing lots of cute/fun things...

Put your cookbooks on EBAY!!!
Your a better person than I am for parting with your cookbooks! I can't bring myself to do it! I do like Robin's suggestion!

I have a friend who is a rare book dealer & he once complained about a customer who had - get this . . . 4,000 cookbooks!

Your kitchen is beautiful!

Great project! I need to embark on the same challenge, though I am not ready to part with too many cookbooks.
