A Fall Festival in the Woods

The Blog Tech and I headed out to a Fall festival early on Saturday morning. I always took my kids to festivals when they were small and they still enjoy going to them.
We drove through lots of farm country.

We arrived just as they opened and there were already lots of cars.

The entrance looked so inviting that I knew we were in for some fun.

The entire festival village is set up under towering trees.

A fall theme filled the place and I couldn't get enough of it.

I wanted the big basket in the worst way and for some reason did not buy it.  Now I am regretting my decision.

I did find another broom shop and bought some.  Just what I needed, more brooms. As I was standing in line to pay for my brooms, they sold out.  It was right after opening but the shop was swamped and all of the brooms were gone. They were only 12.95 so people really scooped them up.

 Permanent sunflowers.

The food booths were lots of fun.

There were lots of BBQ places.

Wood smoke filled the air which added to the atmosphere.

This was The Blog Tech's favorite.  A BBQ'd pulled pork parfait.  It consisted of BBQ'd pork layered with mashed potatoes and topped with a 'cherry' tomato and BBQ sauce.  It was really delicious but I made him throw it out after a few bites because I told him not to get full so we could sample everything else.  He pouted.

He chowed down until I tossed it.  TBT shaved his head at the beginning of summer and it is just starting to fill back in.
 We sampled fried green tomatoes.

And fried mushrooms which were quite good.

It wasn't too crowded but that changed quickly.

Lots of Halloween crafts were for sale.

Musicians were preforming throughout the festival.

 More baskets.

A ribeye sandwich and a stacked ham sandwich.  We took one bite and threw them out.  Not very good.

I'll show more tomorrow and reveal what I came home with.

I've never seen such a market before - I suppose that it's quite uniquely American. It all looks wonderful As I like pulled pork, that dish caught my eye (and stomach)!
What a beautiful and inspiring blog you have. So folksy and crafty and seasonal. *Love Sara*
The pulled pork parfait is a fun idea! I would have pouted too, Blog Tech.

We haven't had a Fall Fair here yet but they will start in September. I'm so impatient! We have a pickle festival that kicks them all off! I love the smell in the air of fire pits! Adds to the Fall feeling! Just love you and your blog! Maggie

The parfait I am very curious about, although I am not very much into pork. This is very original. I have read about something similar in the UK: a sundae that was in fact a banger and mash.

I would LOVE to see a Fall festival here. There are faires in the UK, which can be akin to it. In Québec, we had something somewhat similar, an "épluchette de blé d'inde", which was about peeling the leaves off sweet corn.

That looks like fun! How clever, to set up a "village" of vendors under the trees. It would have kept the hot sun off you while you shopped. That's something I would have enjoyed!

Were you at Shaker Woods in Northeast Ohio? That's where I was on Sunday and I swear it looks like your pictures. And the Broom guy was sold out too!!!!!

We have Santi-Cali-Gon days here, which is similar, but in large tents, not permanent buildings. Lots of crafts and lots of things for a "fall fix" plus music and good food!
First of all, what a beautiful setting for a Fall Fair. I saw a couple of things I would have been temped to buy..and like you, I love brooms. PH recently brought me home a love dark red one..small and light weight but sweeps like a dream. Of course there is my witches broom always on the fireplace..it stays out year round.

AND THE FOOD. It all looked good. Blog Tech looked like he was enjoying himself. Then I thought of the food he gets at home.
OH..and how is it going with his new little cottage?? That was the sweetest little place!
More pictures soon?
Hugs,
Mona

Looks like it was a great event and reminds me that I really need to get to the Mercer Museum festival next May.

Those baskets looked lovely. And although I like the contents of that "parfait", I'm not sure i could eat it! Not quite the same as a hamburger-shaped cake (which I've also never eaten but seen!) as it is more realistic looking!

Minus the sandwiches everything looks good and so fun. You have some great stuff that goes on around you. It's fun to travel along through the pictures. Especially for me now since I can't go anywhere at all! :)

Sounded like a fun festival but throwing away perfectly good food is so wasteful. The Blog Tech liked the parfait so you threw it away so he wouldn't get full? Then you went and bought 2 sandwiches that you just threw away because you didn't like them? I'm surprised you didn't go buy another parfait, eat half of it then toss the rest when you were finally full. SMH
