Turkish Simit Recipe

I made these last year for the first time and then made them again the other day.  These are similar to bagels though they are not boiled before baking.  Simit is easy to make and so very good.
Mix the yeast with the water.

Kneed until you have a smooth dough.

Place the dough in a greased bowl.

Cover with plastic wrap and let rise until doubled.

Turn it out onto a floured board.

 Cut it into pieces.

Roll each piece into a long rope.

Mix some molasses, I used Turkish pomegranate molasses, with some water.

 Just enough for dipping.

Fold the rope of dough in half.

Twist, holding both ends. I had to weight it down with my bench scraper for the photo.

Dip it in the molasses mixture on both sides.

The dip it in the sesame seeds.

Place them on a parchment lined cookie sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.

Bake at 425 degrees for 15-18 minutes.  Here is the complete recipe:  http://octoberfarm.blogspot.com/search?q=simit

I must have missed these the last time! Looks yummy!

But I have never eaten a bagel in my entire life :-) Strange really since I have a recipe in a book I once bought with breads from all overb the world.

Have a great day!
Christer.

Jaz,

This looks interesting, and sounds good with a cup of coffee.
Why you are not a famous celebrity cook of fame is beyond me. Me thinks maybe you are and we just don't know it! :) Whatever the case, your blog is beyond anything I ever thought I would come across when I began blogging. I feel fortunate to have found you. And not JUST your blog! :)
Your simit looks absolutely the real thing Jaz, so glad you're making and enjoying it :) Afiyet olsun!
