Shrimp and Grits

This is simply one of my favorite meals.  There is nothing quite like good bowl of shrimp and grits.
I use stone ground grits and make them in milk with salt, pepper and butter.

You just whisk the grits into the boiling milk and then let them simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes.  I mixed in some shredded white cheddar too.

I sauteed some tasso, onions, garlic and green and red peppers in some butter just until they began to soften.  Then I just scoot them to the side and throw in some shrimp and add a cup of chicken bouillon.  I added S&P, some Cajun seasoning and a shot of hot sauce.  Cook, tossing the shrimp until the shrimp turn pink.

Place a big scoop of the grits in the middle of a bowl and surround them with some of the shrimp and sauce.  Sprinkle some sliced green onions over the top.

This looks delicious! But I'm not sure what grits are.
If I understand things right it's made from corn? Like a kind of porridge?

I must try this if I can find it over here :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

Yum! One of my favorites!
Grits! I think they are love or strongly dislike food--I fall into the second category

OH MY YUM! Looks wonderful, might have to talk 2nd Man into this soon. :-)
Grits were served at a little diner I went to this past weekend. Everybody enjoyed them but me. I'm wondering if having all that deliciousness on top would have made a difference. Because your grits look mouth watering.

grits are not something common here in WA, but I love hominy and corn, so I am going to give this a try! Tasso isn't common either, so I might have to use bacon instead.
