Maple Everything

Are you sick of sugar shacks yet?  The Blog Tech and I are just about mapled out.  We have one last big event at the end of the month and then that will be it for this year.

These signs dot the countryside to lead you to the shacks.

We arrived at this one at 10:00 am and The Blog Tech ate an apple dumpling topped with 3 scoops of ice cream and hot maple syrup.

Then he washed it down with a maple milkshake from this booth.  Gross!

This shack had a blacksmith making all sorts of blacksmithy things.

The next shack was serving hotdogs cooked in maple syrup with spicy maple syrup mustard.

 Wood storage.

On the way to the next shack we passed this very pretty farm.

Looks like it could be in Sweden!

This farm had a horse drawn wagon to take you to the shack.  The line was too long so we passed.

It also had a museum and restaurant.

They showed how the early settlers tapped the trees to gather sap.

In this area, every single maple tree we saw was tapped.

This was the last shack we visited.  You can see the syrup being collected in the pot on the left.

Different grades of syrup in the window.

You can sit and watch sap boil if you are so inclined. We were not.

Everyone is offered a syrup shot.  Believe me, after a while the offer of a syrup shot is not a good thing.  We drove home with maple syrup headaches.  I figured The Blog Tech earned his.

The sappers are just starting to collect in my neck of the woods. They have to deal with at least 3 feet of snow yet ~ not a fun situation. Hopefully it will be a good year for them all.

I'm laughing at "the offer of a syrup shot is not a good thing." For some reason this strikes me as very funny.

I'm glad you had so much fun

I have to say that hotdogs cooked in maple syrup just sounds disgusting :-) :-) :-) But the milkshake sounded nice though.

Yes that farm could have been ver here, perhaps a bit too bright red color but I've seen that on houses here too. Perhaps they once came from over here.

I've enjoyed this trip very much!

Have a great day!
Christer.

What a great trip! I'm planning a trip to Bryn Mawr to pick up some snow drop plants I ordered, and, since I have been sort of house-bound, I a ready!

A maple sugar shot sounds fine provided you just do one. I'd like to try the hotdog with the mustard, myself. LOVE that bin for wood.

Oh my gosh, I LOVE these maple syrup posts! My teeth are hurting a bit, just reading them - but I wouldn't say "no" to a syrup shot! Cool adventure!
