Pancakes for the Kids

I made 100 pancakes the other day for the kids at the center.  None of them had ever tasted real maple syrup and I really wanted to give them this experience and what better way to eat it than on good pancakes?  Here is the pancake recipe:

3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

Sour the milk with the vinegar for about 10 minutes.  Mix it with the rest of the ingredients but do not over mix. Let the batter sit for about 15 minutes before cooking.

I sent 1-1/2 gallons of maple syrup thinking the kids would drown their pancakes in it.  They ended up only using about a quart.  They were very respectful about overusing it which really surprised and delighted me.  If I had served these to my friends they would have used all of the syrup.

Within 10 minutes of opening the slow cooker, this is all that was left!  These disappeared soon after.

They must have loved it :-) I think they are used to not take too much just in case they would want some later on. What did they think of the maple syrup? I guess they loved it as much as I do :-)

Have a great day!

they must have been in heaven, what a treat, they look amazing!!!
Someone probably told them how expensive real maple syrup is and that they should not waste it.

Only for the kids? I'd have some of those too.
Pancakes and kids, the perfect combination. They must have been so happy. Amazing that they did not drown them in the maple syrup. Which proves the point, that a little bit of something good goes a long way.

What a great experience for some sweet little kids!
How yummy is homemade syrup! The kiddos must have loved it!

To me pancakes were comfort & I loved it when my mom made us pancakes for supper, that was the best!

What a kind gesture, I'm sure you created a wonderful memory for the children!

Those pancakes must have been so delicious that they didn't need much syrup. That's great! You are just the nicest person!
