We took off early on Saturday and headed out to the country to look for strawberries. It's such a short season and I like to make pies to give to friends and jam which I put up so we can have these delectable berries all year long. I look for local berries which have just been picked because they have the best flavor. We literally drive country roads looking for roadside stands. I found a guy selling berries and rhubarb at the end of his driveway. Perfect! He only had 10 quarts and I bought them all. Two of them are in one of the bags. I was so excited to find them. |
Then I came home and had to hull them all which is not a lot of fun.
But I turned them into 4 pies for some very happy people. Recipe:

And I had enough extra ones to make several jars of jam. I will be on the hunt next weekend to see if I can find more. I can't wait for blackberry season!

I'll buy a lot this year and make jam and strawbwrry cream :-)
Have a great day!

I rarely had strawberry pies, the big thing back where I come from is strawberry shortcake (a summery delight!) and of course strawberry jam. I used to make them by mashing strawberries and adding sugar, then throw the mash on the toast.
