Orange Scones

363 days until Halloween....damn!  And Summer weather is back....double damn. I made these scones for breakfast over the weekend.

For the scones:
½ cups orange juice, freshly squeezed
 ¼ cup buttermilk
1 whole large egg
2 T. orange zest
3 cups flour
⅔ cups sugar
5 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoons salt
2 sticks butter

Preheat oven to 350° F.

To make the scones, combine the orange juice, buttermilk, egg, and orange zest.  Set aside.
Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.  Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir the wet mixture into the dry mixture until it comes together.
Turn out onto a lightly floured counter and knead gently.

Roll dough into a rectangle. You will see pieces of the butter.

Cut into 24 triangles.

Place onto parchment covered cookie sheet.
Oops...the glaze pics are out of order.
For the glaze:
3-½ cups powdered sugar
⅔ cups orange juice
1 Tablespoon orange zest
¼ teaspoons salt
To make the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, orange zest, and salt until smooth.  Adjust sugar/liquid to reach desired consistency.

Bake for approximately 18 minutes.  Remove to  racks to cool.

Dredge completely cooled scones in the glaze and allow to set completely.

Oh my! I love scones. Perfect with hot coffee.
Oh by the way, I made the mini meat loaves that you showed in your blog a couple of weeks ago and David loved them. Thanks.

These looke delicious and are a must try. The scones I make are more like breakfast bread with mostly some kind of cheese on them so this will be a fun change!

Have a great day!
Christer.
