A New Potting Table

I bought a new potting table.
Adieu old table, you served me well!  This table has been on my patio for 10 years in all sorts of weather and though it looks a bit rickety, it's actually pretty solid.

Hello new table....you look like a real work horse.

The old table is going to the lower garden.  The new one is unusual.  It's from Paris and I am guessing it's an old farm table.  Notice the drawer on the left without a drawer pull?

The third drawer is actually on the side and has a metal drawer pull.  Interesting?

Has anyone ever seen a table like this?  Any idea what kind of wood this is made of?

What a beautiful table. Sorry I can't tell you anything about it. I am surprised they didn't put a "dummy" pull on the front where the end drawer is, though I think the drawer is a fun surprise. I know you're going to make great use of your find.
I knew someone who had a big old table similar to that with drawers in it -- used it as her dining room table. It had come from a convent where it was used for the same thing. The drawers were for storing cutlery, napkins, tablecloths, etc.

Hi Joyce, not sure of origins, but I've looked up some old French tables here in London and the antique shops charge £500 or more! Our London flat doesn't have much counter space so now I'm looking at getting a custom-made oak butcher's block w drawers. Cheaper to get made in the English countryside and have delivered to the city! Enjoy yours! :)
I have no idea what kind of table it is but I sure would like one.

Your new table is wonderful. Heck, your old table would be just fine for me, but the new one is quite fabulous. I know you will get much use from it.

We actually had a table like that in our summer cottage when I grew up. Wehad very littlke space so it was perfect to have all the knives, spoons and forkes in it. Ours was made from Pine but I think they quite often used oak when making tables in France.

Have a great day!

Christer.

LOVE your new table! I like tables with drawers....our kitchen one has a drawer for the cutlery and is very old but still going strong.
Now....you must not advertise like this that you are working outside in February!! THAT is NOT fair at all!! lol

If I lived near you I'd buy that old one off of you, ha. That's EXACTLY what I want for our garden area. Dang, I need to hit up some places here and see what I can find. You are so lucky!!

Do you put anything on them to keep them up over the years outside in the elements? I like how it weathered...
