Warm Blankets for Cold Days

Remember this basket I bought at a festival recently.  I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it.  Then I had this idea.

I filled it with vintage wool lap blankets and put it at the guest house for visitors to use when they are sitting outside roasting marshmallows.  These blankets were very popular back in the 50's era of raccoon coats and fans waving pendants at football games.  Most of them never left the plastic bags they came in and others were probably only used a couple of times. You can find them on ebay.  You can find everything on ebay.

And since they are wool, they are very warm.

That basket would be perfect to take outside when you and your family sit around a little fire toasting marshmallows and making smores.
It's in the low 60's now in the morning here. The temperatures don't get this low in the morning until late in October or early November. I'm thinking a rough winter.

I remember those blankets, We had several at our summer cottage where it could be a bit damp and cold when the autumn came. Haven't seen any in ages though, today they only sell fleece blankets.

Have a great day!

Christer.

Great idea for the blankets. You know we found those cow print blankets recently, but there are only four. I t might be nice to mix in some vintage ones as well. Will have to look for those and then look for a big basket!!!

Oh this is such a great idea! I love warm blankets, I bought a few and want to buy more, but they are a pain to store in our house.

We go to an outdoor restaurant on a sustainable, organic farm. At you enter there is a basket of blankets like yours for patrons to use for their comfort. I thought they were made of lamb's wool, but alas, the label said IKEA.

That looks so inviting! We always had a navy blue and red plaid wool blanket with fringes in our big Dodge family cars. They came in handy when we took all of our road trips. Many happy memories.
That basket is beautiful! Great idea to place blankets inside to be used for outside fall activities
