In Search of a New Chow Chow

 I'm back...sort of.  Some of me is back but most of me feels like i've been cut into little pieces and thrown to the wind. This has been a tough 3 weeks.  I've been trying to distract myself by looking for breeders. We visited one on Monday.
 In the past, we never met the parents of our chows which was a big mistake.  This time I am absolutely meeting the parents of any puppy I am considering. With possible grandchildren in the future, I have to have a dog that is very friendly.

 These two week old pups are going to other people but we got to hold them and meet about 15 other chows. Chows are born with black muzzles which fade in the first year or so.

 This breeder is willing to work with us to breed the kind of chow we want. I'm just having trouble realizing that this process is like going to visit the source of the chicken you buy in the grocery store.

 I have a lot of homework to do and a lot of breeders to visit.

If we are lucky, we might have a pup or puppies sometime in the spring!  I guess that this should make me happy but right now I just want Teddy.

Also.....my blog is being worked on so it will be a while until it is totally up and running as it should be! Hopefully it will be fully functional soon!

Chow chow pups are the sweetest things - well, next to full grown Chow Chows. Please know that I'm thinking of you and sending soul healing thoughts. I had a black Chow Chow once. I miss him still.

Good goD, are those pups cute! We know that those we have loved with all of our heart are irreplaceable, but it is nice having a sweet new thing around to keep us distracted. Breeders can be good, or horrible. I know you will choose well. Or he/she/they will choose you. Sending you continual hugs.

Joyce, I'm so glad to see you post. I was also thinking of you these past few weeks and how you were doing. I was very worried about you. I know you want Teddy and it breaks my heart. I'm glad you are looking to get another chow puppy. The pictures of these little ones are so cute. They look like teddy bears. So sweet.

THe right puppy will be born when your heart is ready for it. No other dog will ever be Teddy but they will be a wonderful addition to your lives in their own right. The pawprints they leave in our hearts never fade.

I've been away from actual blog visiting for such a long time because of my long trips away and then trying to catch up that I missed your posts about Teddy. I'm so sorry for all the pain you're going through, Joyce. I still can't believe Teddy is gone. He was so beautiful. I know another Chow Chow can't replace Teddy, but he would add to the love you hold.

My heart goes out to you! You are very wise to check all you can before deciding which line of dogs you are taking home. I have too much experience with this- I’m sure you are aware to look for genetic testing on the parents. With our dogs (bull terriers and an English Mastiff), we’ve found that you can’t be too careful to check out everything. Sending good thoughts your way, that the perfect puppy finds it way to you!

Go to a breeder and lay down on the floor and just let yourself be covered in happy, playful, beautiful puppies. Let them lick and bark and climb all over you. It's good for the soul.

They are so cute. It is hard to find another pet when you have lost one. I hate to use that word pet, because they become a part of the family. Just take your time when deciding what you want. Give yourself time to grieve.

Oh, Joyce, I am so sorry. There has been such loss this month, many dogs I followed on Insta and FB have passed over...I know it's stupid to talk as if they were beloved relatives, but I am grieving over them, just like Teddy. They really ARE family... I think of my lost ones every single day.

Joyce, I feel your pain! I'm so sorry I didn't write earlier. When our Chow (BonBon) died, we also started looking for a new Chow to get ourselves distracted.

Oh Joyce! I am just hearing of Teddy's passing now. I am SO sorry for your loss. It must be so difficult as Teddy was everywhere you were. Please do take care and all the time you need. Good idea to 'shop' around for the best breeder.
