A Bad Do and No Knead Bread

This bread is so good and so easy to make that I don't know why everyone doesn't make it.  It is a staple around my house.  It makes great French toast too.

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 and 1/2 cup warm water
Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, salt and yeast. Add water and stir just until incorporated. Do not overmix. The dough will be shaggy.
  2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let sit on the counter, at room temperature for 8 to 24 hours. The dough will rise and have lots of air bubbles.
  3. The next day, lightly flour a piece of parchment paper. Place dough onto paper. With floured hands, shape into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap.
  4. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Adjust rack to lower position. Place Dutch oven inside. Preheat for 30 minutes.
  5. When oven is ready, carefully place the parchment paper with dough inside the Dutch oven. Cover with Dutch oven lid and bake for 45 minutes. Remove lid and bake 30-40 minutes more or until the top is golden brown, has cracks. Internal temperature should be 190 degrees.
  6. Carefully remove Dutch oven from oven. Remove parchment paper with bread and place on a wooden cutting board. Let cool completely.
My new sourdough starter is looking good and healthy.  I am going to make this bread using the starter when it is ready.

Day 3 of feeding the starter.  It gets 1/2 C. of all purpose flour.

And 1/2 C. of bottled water.  Stir to incorporate, cover with plastic and sit it in a warm place for another 24 hours.  Feed it this way for a week to 10 days before using it to get a true sourdough flavor.  Store the remaining starter in a loosely covered jar in your fridge and feed weekly.

Winnie got groomed.  She looks like the Bichon Frise that just won the Westminster Dog Show!  She got a bad do!  Look how they shaved her butt!

 A black tongue pic.

Now she is giving me a raspberry!

I have to tell the groomer not to clip her so much the next time.  Look how her schnozzle is turning brown.  My little girl is growing up.  I need to decide about getting her spayed.  I have always had my dogs spayed at around 6 months.  Now they are recommending spaying at 16 months.  When do you spay or neuter your dogs?

your bread looks great and so does Winnie even if she got a bad doo lol,,, it was always six months here as well for spaying, I hadn't realized they changed it,, for what reason I wonder, I have heard recently that they say if a female cat is spayed to young she may have incontinence issues while aging,,

We had Lucy spayed at 4 months with no problems. Pebbles was spayed at 6 months and there were problems.
The good thing about a bad hair cut--it grows out

Here they recommend to spay at ten to twelve months old and that's usually when I let my dogs go through it.

I must admit that I did think Winnie looked a bit odd today :-) :-) but as said before, it grows out again :-)

Have a great day!

Christer.

She still looks pretty! :) Our dogs were shelter dogs, and Charlie is the only one who hasn't been fixed, we don't know her age though. But when I had the pugs, I think it was at 9 months, males, so a much easier operation.

I make no knead bread about 2-3 times a week! I love it. The only difference is that mine goes into the fridge overnight. I'll never buy bread again! :)

spaying age will depend on the size of your dog. They need those hormones for proper growth, especially large/giant breeds. Spay when they are full grown. A giant breed might not be until 2 years old. Chows are a large, so I would say at least a year old and 16-18 months would be better - it lowers the incidence of hip problems later in life.
I've had cats & dogs all my life & always spayed/neutered them before they were sexually mature. I did NOT want my young dogs having puppies @ 10 months old like my neighbor's dog! And male cats spray if they're not 'done' before 6 months. Never had a problem with any of the animals ever.
Was part of the 'Trap & Spay' program for feral cats for a year. All female cats trapped were spayed except for nursing mothers & young kittens because cats can have a litter by 6 months & produce litters three times a year.

I definitely believe in Spaying females. Cuts down on mammary tumors. I spayed my Country right after her 1st heat. She lived to be 18 years old.
