The First Day Together

Most of the first day went swimmingly for Winnie and Willie.  Here is the little loaf of bread sleeping in his kennel under the garden room stairs.

During afternoon nap time, Winnie actually laid down next to his kennel to snooze.

 She got closer.

 And closer.

They played together nicely while he was in his pen outside too,

But then my husband brought Winnie back from her walk and let her off leash into the back garden unannounced.  I had Willie on his leash in the garden and we were both taken by surprise.

Winnie went  bit crazy.  I dropped Willie into his pen and the two of them barked ferociously at each other until I was able to lure Winnie away with a treat.  Winnie was agitated for the rest of the day.

However, I put them to bed in their own separate kennels at 8:00 last night and never heard a peep until I woke them at 5 this morning.  So, at least we all had a good night's sleep.  It's a learning curve and we will all figure it out.  Though in the future you can count on pics of my husband in those kennels. The puppies and I will be just fine.

learning curve for sure, who would have ever thought puppies could be so complicated but I guess, animals, learning where they are in the pack,, but now I have visions of your poor husband in that cage and Im sure it won't leave me soon!!!! All that beautiful Chow goodness in one home,, its too much for the heart to bare,, cuteness overload!!

Maybe Winnie just figured out this new person is here to stay.

With all that hair, he looks like a fat cutie!
They'll be great friends before long.

Winnie is just protecting her territory--they will soon be best buds!
In a short time they will be friends.
Sounds like it went well, all things considered!

We know, without a doubt, that Winnie will be In Charge. Once she gets him sized up as a playmate rather than a rival, they should have a ball. And you will have double trouble!
She'll be fine with having him around as soon as she understands nothing will change and that it is fun to have a buddy around :-)

Have a great day!

Christer.

territorial imperative....Winnie is just setting the ground rules...
in no time she will "Mother" Willie and show him the rules (her rule) of the roost.. I am waiting to see the delightful duo response to the blog tech...and Winnie's reaction there....

You might try walking them, separately, on different routes, for about a half an hour, then meet up and walk them home together, as a pack, and enter the property together. Might help.

When you said she went crazy and then the barking, it sounded like Winnie was telling him this was her territory and he had to go. After a day or two of them being outside together playing might change her ideas.

It'll be interesting to see who turns into the Alpha pup. :-)
Aren't they the cutest! Now I can see how big Winnie is getting and how tiny Willie is :)
I hope they soon figure things out.
They are adorable & seem to have strong personalities!

Not too bad I'd say. It's a work in progress really.

They will be 'siblings' before you know it!! It is always interesting to watch the process of pets adapting to each other. Sounds like they are off to a pretty good start. xo Diana
