After The Shot

Phewwww.....not too long after I put up yesterday's post, the vaccine kicked in.  First I got a headache, not horrible but enough to be annoying and it gradually got worse.  Next, I got strange stomach problems.  My stomach sounded like the bridal shop scene from the movie 'Bridesmaids'. I got a killer stomach ache and I never get stomach aches. Then the aches set in.  Everything hurt, even my skin.  My feet hurt! This all occurred over about 7 hours.  I sat on the sofa watching a wave of symptoms pass over me. I kept reminding myself that this was my immune system fighting off covid but hola...it sure felt like I had a bad flu. I took two Ibuprofen which honestly did not make a difference.  So, I went to bed, slept fine, and miraculously wake up totally back to normal.  What a trip!  I am sharing this because I think that the more we know about this journey, the better. Remember, my husband had no symptoms at all after his second shot. I also rarely get sick so I thought it interesting that I had such a dramatic reaction. So, as they say, you might get sick but it doesn't last long.  Get vaccinated!

I have heard that it can be a nasty reaction to the second shot so it is good to know it will pass quickly! Nice to know You're back to normal again :-)

Have a great day!

I had similar symptoms after both of my shingles vaccines but, like yours, passed after a day. Hoping to get my COVID vaccine soon.
Glad your reaction only lasted 24 hours!

Well aware of the possibilities, but I hope I have them not my husband. Men are such over babies. I will find out at the end of the month. I will take solace in knowing that means the vaccine is working.

I had both of my vaccines. After getting my first one, I didn't have any side effects, only my arm ached a little. But after my second vaccine, my temp went up to 100.5 and I felt terribly weak with chest pain, but thankfully that didn't last too long. So to make this story short, I'm glad I got them both!

I have had both Moderna shots and simply a tender arm at the injection site for a couple days ... that's all!! So, I am grateful I had no big reaction to the shots! That's all I get with my yearly flu shot, as well!!

One thing I will add.... and I had all of the same (without the stomach stuff) symptoms. Don't take Ibuprofen for the symptoms. That is something they should have told you when you got the vaccine. Just ride it out.... it will go away. There was a study suggesting that Ibuprofen could lessen the immune response. Just a study....

I had my second Pfizer shot yesterday. No reaction at all. Maybe it's a guy thing.

they told me not to take ibuprofen prophylactically but to take it as soon as i had symptoms. it didn't help anyway.

People have different reactions. Me? I had nothing which is strange for someone with Lupus. I should be writhing on the floor in monstrous pain but I didn't feel a thing. David on the other hand says his arm feels like it wants to fall off and he's been feeling bad since yesterday when we got home.
Still, I can't help but wonder if the reason why I'm not hurting or tired is because of our differences in pain and tiredness toleration. I might be able to put up with more because I've tolerated this shit from Lupus for so freaking long.

I am finally getting my first shot on St. Patrick's Day (do I know how to celebrate??) I'll be interested to see how and if I react to the second. It seems to wildly vary from person to person. I'll feel a whole lot better once they are behind me, though.

Oh man I am so dreading some of these side effects. Makes me almost want to not take the shot. I will though. Only cause my husband will keep nagging me if I don't. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and the side effects will be minimal. Glad you're feeling back to normal.

We're signed up, but right now we're in the next group. Still trying to decide for J&J or the double shot. Can't wait to get whichever one we get.

I was surprised at my flu-like symptoms, but took comfort in knowing that I got the vaccine and that my body fought it off. First time I've had a fever in 40 years, but so worth it. Isn't the human body wonderful how it reacts - and how 'bout those Scientists!!

My 2nd shot reaction lasted 2 days. However, I was part of the Astra-Zenaca trials so my vaccine was different from what everyone else had.

I am glad you are ok!

Oh my! Oh my! This must be because you're so young. My young nephew did get flu like symptoms. But so far, everybody in my age group 65-91 just got a sore arm. You must have had powerful, magical virus fighters in your shot. :-) I'm so happy to know you were just fine the following day. That's a relief (in more ways than one)!
