I can't remember where these rolls got their name but they are so good that they are a cause for celebration. I made almost 30 of these for my workers yesterday.
I made this pizza dough recipe:
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 3-1/2 tsp dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil , plus more for bowl and drizzling
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Pour the water into a large bowl; sprinkle with yeast and let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes. Whisk in the sugar, oil, and salt. Add flour and stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Lightly brush another large bowl with a little olive oil. Place dough inside and drizzle a little oil over the top. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm, draft-free place until dough has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and gently knead 1 or 2 times, forming into a round. Let rest for about 10 more minutes.
- Use or store as is for 1 large pizza, or divide into 4 equal portions for individual pizzas.
I split the dough in half and rolled it into a rectangle then brushed it with garlic butter. Then I sprinkled it with a mixture of shredded provolone, parmesan and mozzarella. I sprinkled Italian seasoning on it and then layered thinly sliced salami, ham and mortadella. Roll into a log and slice about 1-1/2 inch thick.
Brush the tops with more garlic butter and bake at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes.
Before baking, I sit each roll on a piece of sandwich size pepperoni. It gets very crispy as the rolls bake and it really adds to the flavor.
I served them with ranch dressing. I think there were 7 or 8 workers there yesterday and within 45 minutes of me taking these to them, more than half were gone. By the end of the workday, there were none left.
