Day 2 Post Op

Willie giving emotional support to Winnie post op.  As usual, this is a nightmare.  Winnie will not take her pills.  We have tried everything and we are only managing to get a few into her.  She has to take 7 at a time which makes it even worse. Some good news and a good tip, we have hardwood floors everywhere which is less than ideal for rehabbing a leg injury.  My daughter suggested that we cover the floors with construction cardboard and tape it with painters tape and it is working perfectly.  Such a great idea.

Sorry to hear you are struggling to get Winnie to take her pills. My Welshie refused all the usual suggestions. I hid them in baby food meat (chicken), and that worked for a good while. At the end, I was frying golfball sized meatballs and tucking pills inside. Not vet prescribed for a "smoldering pancreas," but it worked!

Pill time sounds like a nightmare. How many people does it take wrestle her into submission. Can the doctor give her a liquid you could at least squirt down her throat with a big syringe? The floor idea sounds like a good idea. I love her water bowl.

Poor little baby girl. Linda has a great idea there. Call the vet for a syringe. Then try crushing the pills and mix them with a little milk suck it up with the syringe and try to get it down her that way. It might work.

Oh dear puppies (and owners!) If the pills are capsules, the insides usually taste terrible. If they're tablets, yep, crush them with a pill crusher, add water, stir and suck up with the syringe. Liquid could be available but is probably very expensive and might taste terrible. Could ask a human pharmacist for some of the flavoring they put in little kids liquid medicine to make it taste better. Ice cream? Maybe if you gave Willie one, Winnie would eat her's? Good luck! Oh, poor baby, and poor family! I’m sure you’ve tried hiding pills in banana pieces.
Great tip for the floor.

It begins again...Joyce I really hope that Winnie's recovery is gentle on everyone. I shed a tear seeing that photo of the W's holding hands....remember when Willie first joined the family? Winnie wasn't happy! But now they are best friends...I hope you can get her pills into her. ♥

Sending healing hugs to Winnie! We've been without power for a bit and no internet, so I am just now catching up. Hang in there!!
