Halloween Treat Bags

My Daughter and I made 150 treat bags yesterday.

We assembled the bags first and then embellished them.

After we filled them, we tied them with ribbon.

We made unique treat bags this year and wrapped all sorts of different candies instead of the ubiquitous mini candy bars.

We added fun Halloween charms.

Some charms are small but they sure are cute.

A small black bat adorns this bag.   I would have died to get a treat bag like this when I was a kid.  I can still remember the best Halloween treats in my neighborhood as well as the worst.  I remember a guy that passed out one peanut in a shell and yet, we still went to his house every year. Everyone's favorite house to visit was the school nurse's home who treated us with a box of Cracker Jacks topped with a lollipop and a package of gum.  Do you remember your favorite treats?

This is the first year we added charms and I think the children will really enjoy them.

Do you remember your favorite trick or treat house and what your favorite treat was?  I am so old that I remember getting popcorn balls and taffy apples. In the 50's there were cheap candy bars made by a company that invented them to use up leftover chocolate and nuts.  They were called Lunch Bars.  I can't remember how cheap they were but we got a lot of them in our trick or treat bags. When we returned home at the end of the night my brother and I would dump out our haul and swap candy.  Somehow I think my older brother always made out better on that deal...haha!

Your treat bags are wonderful! The assortment, the ribbon, the charms -- you go above and beyond for your trick or treaters! I'm old enough to remember popcorn balls and candy apples too. We used to have cheapo chocolate bars in Canada called "Cuban Lunch" -- rectangular slabs of chocolate with plain peanuts in them, in a corrugated red paper wrapper. Some local manufacturer tried to revive them a few years ago -- I don't know whether they were successful. I bought one "for old time's sake." Pretty "basic" treat.

How we loved being turned loose on Halloween to run through our small town without adult supervision.
It sure was a different world back then. Your treats are just fabulous. My favorites were always the home made treats...popcorn balls, fudge, candied apples and such. One man always handed each child a dime! That meant ten more piece of penny candy could be bought at the five and dime (once our tummies had recovered from the Halloween binge)

Those bags are wonderful, I wished I lived in your neighborhood as a kid. I remember getting a dime too, also remember practically running to the house that gave out candied apples. He ran the local bakery, candied apples and of course popcorn balls. I remember wax candy with liquid inside what was that? The good old days when people were kind.

I forgot to mention Mrs Williams who gave out full size candy bars, they were fanned out on her coffee table and you picked one. Lovely lady.

In the '60s, most had candy bars, some popcorn balls. My house would pop popcorn and put it in special popcorn paper white bags. I guess better than apples and peanuts. I hated when evil people started putting razors in candy, then I had to take my son's to the xray dept before he could eat it. Then you could only give wrapped candy. Sigh. Linda in Kansas

I worry that some of those charms will end up in little mouths.

Wow! Lucky kids in your neighborhood! The trinkets make me a little nervous as they may be choking hazards.... Just please caution people...?
