Autumn in the Countryside

Yesterday was a perfect Fall day.  It was gloomy and cool with some light showers, my kind of day!  We took a very long drive up in the mountains.  When we take these trips, I always avoid highways and opt for the country roads.  You never know what you will find.

Like this farm market!  It had no name that we could see but it was decked out with all things Fall.

 Pumpkins anyone?

 Straw bales.

 Belted Galloway cows.

And this find made my day.  Years ago The Blog Tech and I came upon this farm on one of our drives.  We never found it again though we looked and looked.  Yesterday his sister and I found it as we drove down an obscure road.  They had just brought in a potato harvest and were sorting them.

And they just picked cabbages as well.  These are huge; bigger than basketballs.  We bought some of each and Honeycrisp apples as well.  Sauerkraut making is in the near future. I will not lose this place again.

We went back to this little place where we found our first pumpkins this year and we bought more.

Then we went to another pumpkin farm and were delighted to see their selection.

A young Mennonite boy waited on us here. Next we found an Amish market and bought cheese and butter and pickled eggs.  It was such a fun day!  We are off to a festival this morning.  Glorious Fall!  How I love her.

Many years ago a friend and I would take our annual trip "up north" Remember this was when you used a paper map ( I know that was a long time ago) we would go on "pencil roads" those thin gray lines on a map to find wonderful farms and shops. No google on the phone you would just look and see what tiny road would get you there, now what is the fastest seems the way everyone drive. This is a shame.
So wonderful that you found "the lost farm" again! But maybe like Brigadoon, it really only appears out of the mist every few years? Think about it! A ghost farm!
The pumpkin farmers would go bankrupt if You stopped buying pumpkins :-) :-) I am a bit jealous because we have nothing like that over here.

Have fun at the festival!

Christer.

Fall produce does present its own photo ops. I am glad you found the lost farm.

I'd always dreaded the end of summer and the start of cooler weather until I started reading your blog. Your enthusiasm for all things autumn is infectious!

We need countrysides like this here.
It is a beautiful time of the year. We do a lot of our fall shopping in Lancaster, PA. The Amish farm produce is beautiful and always reasonably priced.

I always like to think of the Belted Galloway Cows as Oreo Cookie Cows! You do have fun and interesting day trips.
