A Perfect Fall Day

On a perfect Fall day, we drove to another one of our favorite festivals.  It is held in an historic village which is quaint and beautiful.

It is also very colonial.

The food trucks were lined up for a busy weekend.

Glass pumpkins.

This might be a the world's best candy store.

All of the buildings were decorated for Halloween.

Spinners and weavers.

The village is built along a canal and barges like this one were used to transport people and goods.  You can still take a canal tour.

Hammered dulcimer music filled the air.

Animal pelts.

Local honey.

Apple butter stirring and by the end of the day, it will be for sale.

There were lots of woodworking booths.

A sampling of some of the food.

Osage oranges were free for the taking.

It seemed like everyone was eating these.

A duck gourd sitting on a grape wreath nest filled with baby gourds.

Indian corn, sorghum, and all sorts of pumpkins.

Indian corn wreaths.

For as long as we have gone to this festival, there has been a both selling these little cabinets.

They are very well made and heavy.

I found out that this was the last year for the booth selling these.

It turns out that many years ago, a husband and wife decided to create pieces like these using discarded furniture.  The husband built them and his wife painted them and added the hardware.  They donated every penny they made to their church.

The wife died last year and her husband said he just doesn't have it in him to carry on.

I bought a lot of them.

I doubt that I will ever find anything like these again.  What a great way to use old furniture and the quality of the wood is awesome.

The price on these pieces were unbelievable.

This box was 12.00.

I bought this one to hold recipes in my pantry.

This is a piece I bought several years ago.  It was such a fun day.

That is a sad story about the astounding little cabinets. And, the price is amazing, such a bargain.

I pick Osage Oranges from a tree in town. How do you or others use them?
Man, it's been years since I heard a hammered dulcimer played live. Such a unique and beautiful sound! And those little cabinets you bought -- so lovely and would go so well with your decor. Sad that the bereaved husband cannot carry on now that his wife is gone.

Except for the pelts ( gross), it looked like a charming village. What an extraordinary price for those cabinets. I would be hard pressed to buy just one! Looked Ike a perfect temperature day too.

How fun that would be. We have nothing like that here in Texas. Well, there are fun festivals but the quality of the stuff you have there is just astounding. We're going to have to put PA on our bucket list for a someday Fall vacation. :-)

What a beautiful fall day. Reminds me of when we went to Apple Hill in C.A.

You had a beautiful day at the colonial fair. The craftsmanship of the cabinets and boxes is outstanding. Woodworking like this is a lost art. Fortunately, you have bought at the right time. There is absolutely nothing that even comes close to this fair in Massachusetts.
