Caramel Apple Pie

If you want a really good apple pie recipe for Thanksgiving give this one a try.
Melt a stick of butter in a pot.

Add 3 tablespoons of flour and whisk it in.

Add 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 1/2 cup of ly. brown sugar.

And 1/4 cup of water.

Whisk this all together and cook over medium heat.

Peel 8-9 apples. I used honey crisp and granny smiths.

When the sugar mixture comes to a boil turn the heat down to a simmer.

Slice the apples.

Roll out half of a basic pie crust and put it in a pie pan.

Roll out the other half and cut it into strips.

Mound the apples in the pan.

Make a lattice top with the strips.

I leave about an inch of space between the strips.

Slowly pour the sugar mixture into all the holes.

Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.

Then lower the heat to 350 degrees and bake another 40 minutes. This will boil over so back it on a foil lined cookie sheet.

Oh boy -- this looks tempting! :) Do you buy the pie crust at the grocery store? Pardon my ignorance -- I live in a country where pies like the American ones aren't that common. ;)

Greetings from Munich, Germany,

Ooooh, that looks SO good! This has been a good year for apples around here, so I plan to take advantage of the abundance! This is an excellent way to use some of them! SO yummy!! Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Ok, Jaz, I'm going to say this again, because I don't think you took me seriously last time. I don't cook. I just don't. And I DROOL every time I visit your site.

You are sitting on a gold mine, because I know I'm not the only person who would be willing to buy the desserts you are making.

If you're willing to make and ship them (I know there are ways of shipping fresh or frozen food, if the price isn't too high), let me know!

Hey Jaz, I made this the other night and followed your directions exactly. My pie came out as soup in the middle, it took another 40 minutes to firm up which dried the crust out. Any idea what went wrong? It wasn't the caramel because that was nice and thick when I poured it over. The flavor was great but I'm stumped about the wetness!
