Buns and Coleslaw

Making homemade buns for pulled pork sandwiches or hamburgers takes them to a whole different level. This is a great bun recipe.

In the bowl of your mixer, pour 4 T. of oil.

Add 2 1/4 tsp. of rapid rise yeast, 2 T. sugar and 1 C. water.

Add 3 C. flour and 1 1/4 tsp. of salt and beat until a smooth dough forms.

Place the dough in an oiled bowl and flip it to cover the ball. Cover with plastic and let rise until doubled.

After the rise, place the dough on a floured surface.

Roll it out and cut it into equal pieces.

These can be shaped into hot dog rolls.

Or hamburger rolls. Brush the tops with beaten egg white and sprinkle with poppy seeds.

Bake at 350 degrees.

They will take about 15-18 minutes.

This is the recipe for the coleslaw I used on the pulled pork. Measure 3/4 cup of mayonnaise into a bowl and add 1/3 C. sugar, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. pepper, 1/3 C. buttermilk, 1/4 C. milk and 2 tsp. white vinegar.

I added some celery salt too.

Whisk this together.

Slice a head of cabbage very thinly.

Add some thinly sliced onions.

You can add some thinly sliced red pepper for added color and flavor.

Oh coleslaw is NICE with burgers and barbecue food. My favourite is the coleslaw from St-Hubert restaurants chain in Quebec (you have it at will when you are in their restaurants).
