Homemade Ginger Ale

The Blog Tech loves it when I make this. I made it a while back and I was stuck for a post today so I thought I would put it up. This is especially good when you have a cold.

Put 2 cups of sugar in a heavy pot.

Add 3 cups of water and 2 cups of sliced fresh ginger.

Bring it to a boil and then simmer it for about 40 minutes.

Drain the ginger syrup.

This will have a very condensed flavor.

Pour some in a glass and add carbonated water. You can make it as strong as you like. It only takes about 1/4 cup of the syrup to make a good glass of ginger ale.

Thanks for sharing this recipe! I love some gingerale and it works so well on upset stomachs.'

Do you keep your extra syrup in the fridge?

I'm sure that the ginger syrup straight is good on an upset tummy. I always remember my mother giving me flat soda to drink when I was sick.

This looks interesting! We can buy ginger ale as a soda here but it isn't especially popular for a reason I don't understand. I'll buy some ginger next time I'll go to the supermarket and then I'll try this!

Have a great day!

Cool! It would never occur to me that one could make this from scratch.

Seeing this recipe for ginger ale reminds me of my BFF from high school. She has passed but back in the day, I would visit and her mom had me help make root/birch beer. It was so much fun. Will have to try the gingerale, for sure. Sounds tasty. Take care.
You gave me this recipe and I love it. Not only is it good for a cold but if you're having a bad day a glass of this with a shot of vodka is very nice.

You continue to amaze me. I never would have thought of making this from scratch. Do you have any idea if it can be made with the fake sugar? Hubby doesn't eat sugar. I'd love to make this sugar free.

Or, you can NOT cook it and make my ginger ale that reaches about 21% proof! (Discovered this, quite by accident, when I forgot to cook it!) Love the home made stuff and it's good for you, too.
